@FromCrockettPod Mania 9 was meant for kids. It fit that era and the demographic at the time. 10 yr old me didn’t have internet or rag sheets to skew my opinion but I still enjoyed it. It doesn’t age well these days but yrs later it’s still fun to watch.

One of Dennis Rodman’s most memorable nWo moments occurred on June 16, 1997, when along with Hogan, Hall, Nash and other nWo members, he entered the United Center – the site of the Bulls’ fifth championship victory just three days prior – in an electric opening scene on Nitro. As Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Voodoo Child (Slight Return)’ blared from the speakers for the first time, the camera immediately showcased a limousine which ostensibly had just arrived in the backstage area. Out stepped Rodman, cigar in hand, issuing veiled threats and offhanded jibes – meanwhile, Hogan bopped his head to the music in tow; a man in his element. In a brilliant production choice, the camera laid bare a veritable behind-the-curtain view, allowing fans to witness the duo approaching the stage in real-time. As Hogan and ‘Rodzilla’ appeared in front of the audience, the building positively erupted, giving way to fireworks, an air-guitar display and, of course, the customary Michael Buffer line: Let’s get ready to rumble! If there ever was a representative moment of the nWo’s cool factor, this was it. The segment achieved the rare distinction of appearing rather spontaneous, almost as if Hogan and Rodman – in a casual, last-minute fancy – decided to stop by Nitro en route to other places. In reality, however, the backstage environment had been a whirl of activity just moments before the show went live. Days later, the Chicago Sun-Times columnist Larry Hamel described the unfolding scene: A few minutes before ‘Nitro’ goes on the air live on TNT, WCW executive vice president Eric Bischoff strides purposefully down the long corridor that is the nerve center of the show. “I need an NWO shirt, a Rodman NWO shirt, and I need it two minutes ago,” he snaps. “Will somebody, anybody, please get me an NWO shirt.” Production assistants scurry around to find one, but wrestler Scott Hall, as cool as his New World Order character, ducks into his dressing room and, upon emerging, calmly flips a black-and-white NWO T-shirt to Bischoff. Dennis Rodman pops out of the Bulls’ locker room, wearing a shirt that reads “NWO Bite Me.” He’s joined in the corridor by ‘Hollywood’ Hulk Hogan, who’s puffing on a cigar, ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage, Kevin Nash and Hall. Just as Hogan is about to go out the swinging doors, he turns to Bischoff and says, ‘You sure you don’t want to be a part of this thing?’ Bischoff shakes his head and says, ‘No, this is your deal.’ Hogan says, ‘C’mon, put your (NWO) shirt on. You’re one of us.’ Bischoff nods and follows the group out the door. A few minutes later, he’s in the ring, microphone in hand, working a crowd of more than 16,000 into a frenzy as the middleman for Hogan and Rodman. The above is excerpted from the book, BEYOND NITRO: Untold Stories from the WCW era by @GuyEvansBooks. For more: amazon.com/dp/B0F6S2PJNF

@ChandranTheMan I’d take the segment with Austin that ends in physicality of some sorts. Or, he’s off the card completely, comes out at the end of either of the title matches to challenge the winner? Roman/Punk being the most ideal. Punk beat him at SS and Roman eliminated him from the Rumble

With Rey Mysterio injured, here are GUNTHER’s WrestleMania options: -Kills two birds with one stone: LA Knight -Crazy idea that just might work: a segment with Stone Cold Steve Austin with some physicality -Cool, but neither can afford the loss: Penta -Unexciting: Dragon Lee -Random, but could work: Seth Rollins -Hear me out: Ilja Dragunov -Here, damn: multi-man IC Title match -Worst case scenario: no match

Did I just watch Darby Allin knock out Gabe Kidd with chloroform, stuff him in the back of a car, and crash that car with him in the trunk?? And that was just the setup for their coffin match on AEW Dynamite?? How are these two even still alive??? Every time I think Darby Allin can’t get more psychotic, he somehow finds a way to take it to another level.

@GoodMicWork At this rate, I wouldn’t book him in a match. Let him come out and brag of who he’s retired, run down the HOF class, have someone like Undertaker or HBK confront him? Staredown, maybe some physical interaction? Or he comes out to challenge the winner of the WHC match?

@EasyMarks You don’t need to donate to her cause to justify defending her. It’s called being compassionate for someone that was ridiculed publicly for a medical condition they have.

Everyone who defended the woman with MS from Ricochet…. Did you donate to her? Did you follow her? Did you support her struggle with MS in any way or donate to MS charities? Ok all of the outrage was just performative. Got it.

@ProWFinesse At this rate, give him a segment on the show, maybe interrupt the HOF curtain call with a returning legend or maybe one of the current HOF class get their revenge on him.

There isn't anybody left to have a big match with Gunther at WrestleMania. The only solutions I see are Dragon Lee, who faced him recently in a heated feud. Je'Von Evans is also an option so that he can avenge his childhood idols.

The state of wrestling media tonight says everything. Coverage was selective, and that’s being generous. Ricochet’s apology was amplified, but the original tweet that warranted it was largely ignored. That’s not accidental. That’s selective reporting designed to control perception. Yes, deleting the tweet was the right move. It never should have been posted in the first place. If there’s any real accountability, it should go beyond a deletion and include a meaningful gesture...such as supporting a reputable MS foundation. But the bigger issue is the media’s role in this. Ignoring the offense and then circulating the apology is not balance, it’s protection. And it’s exactly why trust in wrestling media continues to erode. Fans are paying attention. They’re not as easily misled as some seem to believe.

@baseballchickie I was always a fan of the guys with colorful gear, or gear that just popped out. Hogan with the bright red/yellow but not as flashy as others like Beefcake, Macho Man and The Rockers. Destroyed pairs of sweatpants with markers and cut out holes to try and look like Shawn Michaels
