#COVID19 observations... Spent today in conversation with people being asked to ‘shield’ by the #NHS as ‘high risk’...it has starkly highlighted ( in case anyone missed them ... 🤷‍♀️) structural inequalities that will mean certain communities bear the brunt of this crisis 1/

Are any other areas of the UK as bad for dearth of job openings for GPs as the north west? I’m comparing to London where friends are surprised at how bad it is. Only 4 applied for my old job, 3 dropped out. Cf my new job where 28 applied. (And I’ve now heard of two Greater Manchester schemes where huge swathes of trainees don’t have jobs from summer).. What is different about the north west (and other areas where GPs can’t find work).. are they using ARRS more than other places? Do they have less money available? This is bad..

Realised this week that however excited I am for the release of #Unheard in July, I really miss the process of writing & researching it. Here’s some of the books I read with many more on my kindle and a whole load of research papers and online resources!

A junior doctor has been offered a training rotation that involves a job 70 miles away. They have 2 kids under 10 and spouse is about to have treatment for stage IV cancer. Apparently, they have to accept the job or leave specialty training? Who should they speak to about this?

Hypothetical question for fellow GPs - let’s say your practice has employed a PA (hindsight is 20/20 and all that, we are where we are) and is now wondering how they might best utilise their skills, whilst keeping patients safe etc. Any constructive ideas?

Ten years today since the UK legalised same-sex marriage. Celebrating the day by trying to orchestrate the perfect seating plan (which is more stressful than anticipated) and writing vows for our wedding in June. Here’s to brighter years ahead for the global LGBT+ community.

@MediaWiseMJ Hi Mike we looked this up for Nora and I think the answer is yes ! I’ve read the link above and I still think the answer is yes unless I’m misunderstanding . See screen shots - if you click through to apply for foreign birth register then you’ll see the option ( circled in red )

Are my adult children eligible for Irish passports if they were born (long) after I obtained my citizenship? Anyone know? What’s the process?

@DrBenLovell Same applies when at work , perching on a bin and need it off to protect patient confidentiality etc or because haven’t had a proper break but don’t want to miss teaching so have it on when doing other work in background which isn’t ideal but might be only way to get home

Months ago someone posted reasons why we shouldnt ask docs on online training days to turn on cameras, but I can’t find it. Did anyone see it? Lecturing to a screen of black squares is really demotivating/unpleasant &makes me not want to do it But I want to understand the reasons

@DrBenLovell Lots of people don’t have a home set up free from other people moving about in the background /needing to interact with you etc etc and it’s embarrassing when others csitting in nice office space… to have space at home where you can sit uninterrupted really is a luxury !

#Medtwitter - inspire me! What did you do for med school elective? I’ve got to start thinking of ideas but where to start!? Not sure whether to go abroad or not (but keen not to fall in the trap of voluntourism) 🌍 Equally if you have intel into funding I’d be keen to hear

Shameful behaviour from Liverpool staff @ElGatoNegroFood today, who disrupted our vigil in memory of Leonard Farruku. They ordered us to move, despite not even being on their property, and turned their outside music up so loud we could not hear one another. Very disrespectful

@bykatewomersley Yeah I’ve seen topiramate refused by GP because person didn’t want to use contraception. They said they used condoms and would absolutely have an abortion should they become pregnant as completed their family. Still refused. Atrocious !
