On 2 November last year, Rishi Sunak as PM interviewed Elon Musk at Lancaster House. I was there. It was quite the love in. Today Elon Musk is making the divisive and inflammatory charge that the British police come down heavy on white thugs but give a green light to alleged Muslim ones, and he is endorsing for his almost 200m followers other claims that seek to sow animosity between communities, such as that the courts and authorities are somehow soft on Muslim criminals. Here is what may or may not elude Musk. The election was barely a month ago, and if there is “two-tier policing” today then there would have been on Sunak’s watch too. Since Sunak presumably believes the police and courts were and are even handed in their treatment of different ethnicities and religions, shouldn’t Sunak say something to Musk?

Some ppl would have no idea how much a full time classroom teacher has to push themselves to get through an entire academic year. In schools where workload is incessantly high, where behaviour is consistently horrific, where scrutiny is extreme, it's a monumental achievement.

@KneeRob Possibly so, but I've yet to see any evidence that he has any positive qualities whatsoever as my member of parliament. It will be interesting to see whether, over the coming months and years, I have reason to revise this view.

@BethRigby Probably a good time to stop trying to score points and let the PM get on and be judged by his actions and not his or your words

WATCH: Bit of back and forth here on PM Starmer's insistence he is committed to spending 2.5% of GDP on defence with no timeline. Is it his ambition to hit it by the end of the parliament. He won't commit. Why won't he put his money where his mouth is? 👇

"What would be unserious would be to simply pick an arbitrary date." Sir Keir Starmer has refused to put a date on his commitment to increase defence spending to 2.5% of GDP. trib.al/YKanzN3 📺 Sky 501, Virgin 602, Freeview 233 and YouTube

"Call me Keir, Prime Minister tells civil servants" I hate this informality, as if the office is unimportant & the title is meaningless. We have order, tradition, titles for a reason. Take it seriously. The title bring with it responsibility.

In England, the Head of State is subject to the Law, as both King John and Charles I found out. The United States seems to have thrown away this precious safeguard against despotism.

A friend writes to ask about a hypothetical Trump self-pardon if elected in 2025. A point of history here that may cast some light:

The head girl at the private school our daughter attended had to catch two buses to and from school, every day, because her parents didn't have a car. They worked 3 jobs between them, never had holidays, never went out to eat. Maybe a good time to recalibrate your prejudices.

One of the most significant educational figures in modern history. So many of the gains that have been made in the sector are down to his efforts. Massive figure in the landscape of reform: curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, literacy etc
