Everyone is getting this Jimmy Kimmel thing wrong. A) It's not cancel culture when it comes from the government. It is censorship and state repression, just like in traditional authoritarian regimes. B) Kimmel wasn't taken off the air for crotizing Kirk. He was taken off for criticizing Trump's lack of concern for Kirk. It was a criticism of the government. This has nothing to do with "cancel culture" and everything to do with freedom of speech. Don't let them gaslight you into thinking this is a minor chapter in the culture wars. This is so much more.

@lukacsy @NateSilver538 Exactly plus he's a comedian. Why would he even be held to the standard that he has to be perfectly correct in everything he says or cancelled when our president lies on a daily basis?

"He suggested that Robinson was MAGA based on no evidence whatsoever!" He did not. He pointed out that MAGA was fingerpointing all weekend 24/7 for the shooter to be anyone else but MAGA. And that's literally what happened: the right went through all options (trans, radical leftist, democrat voter, etc) before they even knew who the shooter was and/or before they knew any details. This is the exact quote of what he said: "We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it." Nowhere here Kimmel claims the shooter was MAGA.

This is part of what I find so frustrating. Kimmel didn't say that it was too early to speculate about the shooter's politics. He suggested that Robinson was MAGA based on no evidence whatsoever! He shouldn't have been fired but that was a fuck-up. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

By the way this is what happens to a country when we vilify all education and assume that every degree and specialized skill set is useless. A government who doesn’t even understand how its own tools work, and a portion of the populace cheering on its own demise. Bring back education.
