@DefenceFaithful But Bridget didn’t first meet the Mr Darcy at work.. nor did the actual Mr Darcy meet that way did they?? Weren’t they both hanging around home or their parents home really?! I know I am missing the point though..

Heartbroken. 7.41am 27•08•2024 I missed her last breathes on this earth. However, I helped prepare her to go down to the big fridge. Be free Natalie, you were too good for this world. I love you and miss you so much, but you’ll always be beside me whenever I need you.

My sister is now in end of life care, but still fighting on. I’m so proud to be her sister. Just heartbroken to be losing her so early into life 💔

Got to love a bank holiday! Sunny beer garden?! Pfft no way! Put that phone on ring and look forward to the police station calls flowing in. What’s not fun about that!? Reminder to enjoy every free second if you get any this weekend..

@DefenceFaithful I like to use it as a ‘teaching moment’ but they are often less keen…

There is a gentle irony of representing someone shouting in your face about how they definitely didn’t shout in someone’s face…

@Defencebrief @MartinSalloway1 Honestly? I’m tired. I think many duty solicitors are tired (and most lawyers to be fair). I’m not sure we have many more underfunded 3am interviews left in us. Never mind 24/7 court as well…

@CourtsIdle Excellent.. so if getting woken up at 2am for a police station in a working week wasn’t enough, I will be expected to go to court as well. Don’t bother asking us if that will work.. sigh.

So the very legal professionals who successive governments have treated so shabbily, are now to be expected to work around the clock.

Vulnerable client due to be sentenced. No PSR uploaded. Check with Probation. Need more time, can’t proceed today.. I politely asked if anyone would like to explain why to my emotional client who was produced for what appears to be no reason? Ah no. That’ll be me then.

@Defencebrief Having done DVPO duties, I think part of the issue is the complainant doesn’t have to support the application. The state can basically intervene and say there needs to be a circuit break in the hope various agencies can step in. Then they can apply for a non mol if they want…

Looking at Domestic Violence Protection Orders. They seem only to last for up to 28 days and I can't see any longer term orders. That seems an oddly short period - is there something that can last longer? I'm not sure of the point tbh.

@MAMBarLife The number of appointments we don’t make or cancel because of this job.. a very good reminder. Thank you

Really think @sra_solicitors should do some undercover calling of solicitors. Spoke to yet another potential client who has spoken to another firm that guarantee to get his case dismissed before the first hearing based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever! It's a scam!

@phatsilk_qc It made such a difference to my really vulnerable client. It isn’t that hard to learn.. and yet…

Ahh a lovely Sunday chat with officers about why the use of the word ‘complainant’ rather than ‘victim’ is genuinely important…

Anyone got a visit at Wandsworth tomorrow?! How did we get to this? (We can guess many answers but this is the press grabbing end of a very broken system sadly)

I am so grateful for the ability to form bonds in long trials. The ability to teach people how I like my tea is only when you hit the next level though.. and the sharing of snacks.. small blessings in a world of stress.,

@Defencebrief I can already sense the costs application.. ‘time spent considering defence emails and drafting vital skeleton’… sigh.

One of the things this overfed skeleton does is to cite my emails to the prosecuting council's solicitor as evidence in their case, which is odd as it really doesn't assist them. Nothing like fostering an environment in which the lawyers can discuss the case in confidence, eh?!

I have just received a 56 page "skeleton" argument, which argues points nobody is disputing. I honestly despair sometimes.

I saw someone who prosecuted me in a grim case. Lovely to see her, but as I walked away, I could see the footage from that case in my head.. I’m not sure we look after ourselves enough in this job sometimes…
