I am not coming back to WotC, not now, and very likely not ever. The company has spent the last decade attacking the very basis of the hobby, including the creators and the people who kept it alive when it was niche. They have attacked anyone who disagrees with the politics of their leadership team and "creatives." They have done interviews, Twitter post, and disclaimers making it clear that they hate anyone who is not part of their tribal thinking. Add in the fact that they have ruined the rules of the game, and you have a poison that I will not willingly drink. Bringing in Luke Gygax as a "peace offering" to those they have alienated is a joke. They have spent years attacking his father as a sexist and racist monster. It is a cynical ploy. He is, in my opinion, a weak-willed and soft human being. I would have told them to get bent. "You broke it, you buy it," in a way. It is going to take a lot more than attaching the Gygax name to a book to prove that they really mean what they are saying. They need to remove the disclaimer from the front of old POD copies and PDFs. They need to fire the leadership that approved the destruction of everything that made D&D, well, D&D. They need to apologize, publicly, to the hobbyist they have spent a decade calling sexist, racist, nazi, scumbags, and other pejoratives. Maybe, and just a maybe, after that I would consider coming back.

D&D Beyond announced the full 2026 platform rebuild with new navigation, journals, and shared dice in Maps VTT. The WotC digital push is killing tabletop soul. Classic Gaming and the OSR sticks to paper and dice; this allows for more creativity. Is this a boon or betrayal?

D&D isn’t evolving. It’s cycling. A new VP and a Gygax name don’t rebuild trust. They make the cycle easier to sell. This isn’t a return to roots. It’s damage control. I’m not buying it. And you shouldn’t either.

@newbiedm Something big. I am part of the Luke team. It has been moving forward for months. The announcement at Gary Con got it out to the masses hype wise. Note I am an old school Greyhawk DM and I would never be involved unless this was all positive!

I feel like #dnd is having an identity crisis. Now they are reaching out to Luke Gygax to work on a Greyhawk. But a few years ago they were ready to push out the old guard. I don't know. Something's going on.

I guess no one actually plays D&D? Looked at the replies and the tone of worship for the objects belies a lack of having actually played these books. My set are dear friends I've been perusing for almost 50 years. I treat them with caution, but I also still use them when prepping game sessions. It makes me sad to think hardly anyone plays the old game anymore. I wager there are less than 100,000 Classic D&D players in the world. It is such a great game too.
