@angelflesh3 They're fine. Not something I'd go out of my way to buy, but if someine brought a pack into the office and offered me one, I'd happily eat one.

@dynastydougfan @AerosoulGFX Kind of the opposite, according to competitive stats: Feraligatr (base and mega) are non-entities in tournament usage Typhlosion has regional and international wins to its name (thanks to the Hisuian variant) And Mega Meganium has fringe tournament usage at just-under 2% usage.

@AerosoulGFX Feraligatr is the least bad solely because of sheer force, but yeah the Johto trio has definitely been on the weaker end of starters. Typhlosion is just shitter Zard who was already shitty from a stat standpoint and Meganium has stats that absolutely loathe its grass typing

@AerosoulGFX Typhlosion is niche-at-best. It's a one-trick-pony where it's one trick is Scarf Eruption. Mega Meganium is probably better in aggregate, but it just hasn't had a chance to show off. Feraligatr is a faud, though.

@otakunathanime *Most* grass type starters would struggle in Johto's setup. Meganium is just the one stuck with the bad matchup list. The only grass starter that *might* be good into Johto would have been the Rowlet line. (Flying early, fighting/ghost later would do wonders)

@otakunathanime Charizard *is* the worst starter in Kanto, but it's still way more flexible in usage than Meganium is in Johto. Mega has one and a half good fights in Johto, and the rest are mostly bad. Zard has one and a half bad fights and the rest are "it's okay at worst"

@Zeroes_King Got me dead to rights on Scollipede. I love my big doofy bughorse. But the other 4 for me would be Galvantula, Snom, Slither Wing (it's kind of Volcarona?), and Scyther. Scizor would be 6, but I just generally prefer the OG.

One thing I’ve noticed is everyone’s top 5 bug-types always seem to include most of the following; Scizor, Heracross, Scollipede, Volcarona and Golisopod. Anyone got any faves other than these? Or does this theory check out?

@PkmnAnon For two concrete examples: if you Thunderbolt a Dragonite, the games text will say it's not very effective, and if you Earthquake a Venomoth, it will say it's super effective, despite both being neutral effectiveness.

"People talking about Gen I's technical errors usually focus on the wrong things. Stuff like Missingno is easy to ignore, as they wouldn't hamper a blind playthrough. Stuff like type-advantages not working as the game tells you are not, as they would hamper a blind playthrough."

@regularaugust (No, I haven't seen the Supereyepatch Wolf video. I'm more going off of rereading it using a pacifist lens after watching Gantz Abridged back in the late 2000's)

@regularaugust I mean... I wouldn't say Gantz is "good", but I can at least appreciate the social commentary it has. For as violent as the manga gets, there's a lot of commentary on cycles of violence and the need to break out of them to find both inner and outer peace.

Seeing The Boys comic get retroactively declared as “good the whole time” makes me wonder if I’ll wake up one day and see everyone loves Elfen Lied and Gantz all of a sudden

@spectralSpices @GroovyMothLegs Sure, but the subtheme is still present and has overlap with Ghost (same way magnet moves are Electric or Steel) The point is more that if something is named after how it's related to generating light? Instantly goes against one of Dark's themes.

@Man319The @GroovyMothLegs yeah, but the vast majority of dark type moves are like. stealing things. kicking them while they're down. ganging up on someone.

@spectralSpices @GroovyMothLegs The Dark type does still have "literal darkness" as a subtheme - a few of their moves still center around the lack of light. Even in Japanese. Black Hole Eclipse, Dark Void, and Night Daze are themed around a lack of light instead of being evil/underhanded.

@GroovyMothLegs but like, dark type isn't literal darkness, it's Being A Dickhead. That's why fighting types and fairies are super effective, but psychics can't penetrate the bad vibes.

@RafaelC62266766 @pokemon_daily Yeah, it's the closest, but it is still a stretch. Pokemon seems to have decided that ninjas are some combination of Bug/Dark/Poison - Shiftry, Ninjask, Toxicroak, Accelgor, Greninja, Sneasler. But that also means that the bug typing already covers the ninja theme.

@Man319The @pokemon_daily If greninja is dark type due to being a ninja Accelgor should be dark type due to being a ninja Only justifiable one The others are all "look menacing, thus dark type"

@ChaosHarlequin7 @pokemon_daily Then you seemed to have missed the second level of the design: that thing sprouting from the back of its head isn't actually a mouth, it just looks like one. Like Sudowoodo, it is pretending to be a different type than it actually is. Hence: the "Deceiver" pokemon type.

@Man319The @pokemon_daily I mean, Mawile is a based on a face eating Yokai with with a giant maw on the back of her head She is more suited to be a Dark type than a Steel type - especially since the JP name for the typing is "Evil Type" 😂

@pokemon_daily Ferreal: "oh, it has a dark color scheme!" Has the same energy as "it's green, so it must be grass type". None of these show any signs of being dark type - Accelgor is the closest, but even that's a bit of a stretch using ninja=deceptive tactics.
