My father was involved in the Desert One operation that turned into tragedy in the deserts of Iran in April, 1980. It was an ill-fated operation ordered by Jimmy Carter to rescue the 53 American hostages held by the Ayatollah Khomenei. The operation, one of Delta Force's first, encountered many obstacles and failures and was subsequently aborted. Five American servicemen died. I spent much of my USAF career fighting Iranian terrorism. It’s personal for me and my late father. Joe Kent isn’t the only guy with skin in the game.
