Big Star was a rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1971. Known as the “quintessential American power pop band,” their music laid the foundation for alternative rock in the '80's and ‘90s.
Their debut album, #1 Record (1972), was critically acclaimed upon release, but failed commercially due to poor marketing and distribution. The band broke up by the end of that year.
However, their music gained a cult following many years later in the 1980s, primarily due to bands like R.E.M. and the Replacements, who cited them as major influences. Critics continued to praise their work, with Rolling Stone calling it "seminal" and noting its impact on rock musicians across generations. AllMusic referred to them as "one of the most mythic and influential cult acts" in rock history, praising Radio City (1973) as their "masterpiece."
Big Star eventually received the recognition they deserved with their induction into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2014. Their influence on rock music endures, continuing to inspire new generations of musicians and listeners alike.

In honor of Veteran's Day, I’m sharing a unique, un-minted piece from our "Americana" ordinals collection on @trygamma. The plate below was once owned by a prisoner of war (POW).
This image carries weight when you consider the story behind it. We may never know who this person was, but what we do know is that he served his country with pride. In today’s divided political climate, where Republicans and Democrats often seem like adversaries, it's easy to forget the deeper shared values that unite us. This individual may have had his own political views, but he still fought for the rights and freedoms of all citizens, including those he disagreed with.
What’s also undeniable is that this person was a prisoner of war, held captive by a foreign military. How long was he imprisoned? And where? Under what conditions? Did he have a family waiting for him back home? These questions remind us of the sacrifices made, even though the full story remains unknown. One thing we do know is that he survived.
To all Veterans, thank you. Thank you for fighting for our freedoms, for liberty, and for the pursuit of happiness. Thank you for serving, protecting, and defending our country—even those you may disagree with politically. Your bravery, courage, and sacrifice are beyond measure. 🫡🇺🇸

There are groups of avid license plate collectors that spend thousands of dollars annually on perfecting their physical collections.
There's the Automobile License Plate Collectors Association (ALPCA) which is an international club of enthusiasts who meet annually at conventions and other regional events to showcase their license plate collections.
"Americana" is the first on-chain vintage license plate collection of 538 unique pieces, minted as ordinals on the bitcoin blockchain. Just think about that...🧠

"Americana", an ordinals collection in collaboration with @tobylason, minting election day this upcoming Tuesday 11/5/2024 on @trygamma. Through the lens of the license plate, “Americana” channels the culture, history, and identity of the United States. This genesis collection bridges three distinct worlds—physical Americana, democratic framework, and blockchain innovation—and features 538 authentic plates, with each state's representation in the collection matching its Electoral College weight. Each unique plate—whether vibrant or road-worn—provides a snapshot of where it has been, what it has seen, and who it represents. A small number of curated plates were deliberately selected to commemorate specific (but unnamed) events that occurred in their respective states and years. The vast majority of these time-stamped artifacts, however, challenge you to connect dates, locations, and events to discover for yourself the truths these metal witnesses may have observed. Just as Bitcoin emerged to confront legacy systems, these plates—launched on Election Day 2024—question the preservation of American memory and the trajectory of its future. By immortalizing physical artifacts on the Bitcoin blockchain, "Americana" unifies democratic ideals and technology, inviting a community of collectors to participate in preserving and revealing a nation's evolving story. #electionday #btc #ordinals #decentralizeamerica
