Kimmel always defended free speech. Yes, he’s on the left, but he was a free-speech advocate. I met him when Just for Laughs did a benefit for me, he was there to show support. He hung out and smoked weed in my dressing room. He was the nicest guy. #JeSuisJimmy

Taking Jimmy Kimmel off the air is unthinkable to me. When I had my free speech issues, Americans told me “That could never happen here. We have the First Amendment to protect us.” Well… it’s happening. #JeSuisJimmy

If governments can jail comics for words, what’s stopping them from doing it to other artists, journalists… or anyone?

I’m Mike Ward. I do comedy. I spent 10 years battling the legal system because of a joke I told on stage. I was fined by the Quebec Human Rights Commission, lost in court, appealed, lost again, and had to take my case all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada. I finally won.
