Today, I had the honour of supporting youth empowerment in Dala Local Government through the Dr. Dahiru Muhammad Hashim Foundation. Forty young men and women who have been actively volunteering in schools, healthcare, and community security received temporary employment offers from the Foundation. Each of them will now serve with a modest monthly allowance, enabling them to continue their service with greater motivation and recognition. This step strengthens government efforts to empower young people and build a stronger local workforce. It acknowledges the sacrifices of these youths and encourages them to remain committed to improving their communities. We are determined to expand opportunities for young people across Kano State, ensuring that their energy and dedication contribute directly to the progress of society and the wellbeing of our citizens. I had the honour of delivering the welcome address at the Africa Sustainability Summit 2025 in Nairobi, a platform that brings together leaders, innovators, civil society, and grassroots actors from across Africa and beyond. The Summit continues a vital continental conversation on advancing climate justice and building resilient communities. I highlighted Kano State’s experience in placing communities at the heart of climate action through our Climate Change Policy, Action Plan, and flagship initiatives that restore land, create livelihoods, and strengthen food systems. I also engaged with Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director of UNEP, who commended Kano’s reforms and pledged UNEP’s support for our environmental and climate agenda. In our renewed effort to bolster job creation for the teeming youth across Kano State, I distributed empowerment packages to 1,130 graduates of six entrepreneurship skills institutes. Addressing the event, I stated the empowerment initiative is about rekindling hope, restoring dreams, and unlocking the enormous potential of youth to become self-reliant, productive, and innovative contributors to the state’s economy. That is why each graduate left the venue not only with a certificate, but also with an empowerment package relevant to their field. Empowerment breakdown is as follows: • 250 graduates of the Informatics Institute, Kura, received laptop computers and phone repair kits. • 140 graduates of the Livestock Institute, Bagauda, received bulls, feed, and veterinary medication. • 250 graduates of the Driving Institute, Kumbotso, received driving licences and certificates. • 200 graduates of the Horticulture Institute, Bagauda, received modern gardening tools. • 200 graduates of the Fisheries Institute, Bagauda, received fingerlings, weighing scales, and tarpaulin ponds. • 90 graduates of the Film Institute, Tiga, received digital cameras. - AKY

Today, I had the honour of hosting His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his deputy Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, at the official flag-off of the Five Million Tree Planting Campaign at the Yanbawa Shelterbelt in Makoda. I am deeply grateful to members of the State Executive Council, heads of MDAs, His Royal Highness, community leaders, and our development partners for their strong presence and solidarity. This campaign is a bold reflection of our shared commitment to restoring Kano’s environment and building climate resilience. With active participation from both state and non-state climate actors, we are mobilising all 44 local governments to plant and protect trees across schools, places of worship, homes, farms, and public spaces. I call on all citizens, institutions, and stakeholders to take ownership of this campaign. Together, we can secure a greener and healthier future for Kano. Dr. Dahir M.
