𝑫𝒆𝒗𝑭𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝑭𝒂𝒓 𝑭𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑯𝒐𝒎𝒆 ✨️ For almost a decade, DevFests have become an annual ritual for me 😅. However, last year, I couldn't attend any DevFest as I was still adjusting to a new environment and learning how things works here.

Kogi State's ACReSAL Project: Transforming Lives and Landscapes Day 2 of the joint World Bank and Federal Government of Nigeria's implementation Support mission to Kogi State was a resounding success. The team kicked off with a courtesy call on His Royal Highness, the Ejeh of Ankpa, underscoring the pivotal role traditional rulers play as gatekeepers and champions of community development. As revered custodians of cultural heritage and trust, they facilitate seamless project integration, mobilize community support, and ensure sustainability. The mission team then visited the Hon. Commissioner, Kogi State Ministry of Environment and Ecological Management, Hon. Engr. Oluwasegun, to express gratitude for his unwavering support in driving project delivery. According to the Commissioner, "Climate change is a global issue, and ACReSAL is playing a critical role in mitigating its effects through tree planting and other climate resilience measures." So far, the project has restored over 1,500 hectares of degraded land. "There is no commissioner of environment and ecological management that have recorded the kind of achievement I have recorded in this short period of time. Courtesy of the World Bank and AcresalNigeria Project support”. “He noted that with the support of the World Bank through the ACReSAL Project and other initiatives, Kogi State will achieve more. This collaborative spirit is crucial for the ACReSAL Project's impact. In Ankpa Local Government Area, the mission team engaged with project beneficiaries, witnessing firsthand the transformative power of the Community Revolving Fund (CRF) initiative, dry-season farming, and livelihood enhancements initiatives. Community members shared heartfelt testimonials, affirming ACReSAL as a life-changing force. For Mrs. Mary Musa, "I'm forever grateful to ACReSAL for transforming our lives. The clean cookstove initiative has freed us from the burdens of smoke, making cooking easier and healthier. After years of struggling with ineffective solutions, ACReSAL's support has been a game-changer. With God's blessings and ACReSAL's guidance, our community is thriving. We're witnessing unprecedented progress, and I'm confident that with ACReSAL's continued support, our community will become the best in Ankpa." Other beneficiaries thanked ACReSAL for introducing innovative climate-smart dry-season farming, which has improved their income, as well as the disbursement of Community Resolving Funds to enhance agricultural production and community livelihoods. A site inspection of the Ankpa Gully Erosion Channelization and Rehabilitation project revealed remarkable progress. Despite only 6% completion, nearby residents praised ACReSAL's intervention, marveling at the once-impassable road now open to traffic. This tangible impact demonstrates the project's potential to boost economic activities, revitalize communities and improve lives. Presently, erosion control and gully stabilization activities are ongoing in sites across the three senatorial districts in Kogi State. With the mission findings so far, it's clear that ACReSAL's strategic partnerships and community-centric approach have yielded remarkable results. The World Bank and Federal Government of Nigeria's joint efforts will continue to empower Kogi State's communities, fostering resilience, economic growth, environmental protection, and a brighter future for its people. The success of ACReSAL serves as a shining example of what can be achieved through collaborative development initiatives.
