Update III: In the name of Allah, the most Compassionate, the all Powerful. I am pleased to announce that On Thursday, 12th March 2026, the House Committee on Banking Regulations achieved significant progress on two key financial sector reforms before the House of Representatives. The Factoring Bill (HB. 516) was passed following a successful Third Reading, (few touches and lobbying aside), we await the Senate for concurrence. Furthermore, the Committee’s Report on the BOFIA Amendment Bill (HB. 1168), aimed at strengthening protection for bank customers and enhancing accountability in the banking system, was also laid before the House and accepted. With the passage of the Factoring Bill (HB. 516), the next steps are Senate concurrence and presidential assent, after which this vital reform will become law. Businesses, particularly MSMEs without the required capital will have new sources of funding beyond traditional institutions. We must ensure that any eligible Nigerian can easily access this through a digitised and transparent process, not connections and recommendations. This milestone underscores the 10th House of Representatives’ commitment, under the leadership of Speaker Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, to advancing legislation that promotes economic growth, safeguards bank customers, and modernizes Nigeria’s financial sector.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. May Allah SWT bless the gentle soul of our mother, Aunty Safiya Ali Rufai. She sadly passed away today on Sallah day after a brief illness. Another reminder of the fickle nature of life. She will be dearly missed. She was married to our late father, Air Vice Marshal, (Baba) Ali Rufai. He was the elder brother of our beloved father, Mallam Nasiru @elrufai and the patriarch of our family, Baba Bashir El-Rufai. Aunty Safiya was fierce, disciplined, devout and compassionate woman. A mother to many. She was an ardent disciplinarian. She will be missed dearly. I implore the general public to pray for her soul to be elevated to the highest level of paradise. May Allah SWT bless the souls of all our loved ones. Allah ya kara mana hakuri. Allah ya jikan Yaya Zainabu da Yaya Farida. Both her daughters that passed away years ago. Indeed, Allah knows best. Happy Eid to everyone. I hope Ramadan went well to those practicing. I also hope Lent is still going well for those practicing. Inspired by the likes of Dawisu and my younger brother, Dr. Bello Zailani, I used this Ramadan to take a break from social media. I was only compelled to briefly return in order to debunk an outright lie by an agency regarding our dear father, the former Governor of Kaduna, Mallam Nasir @elrufai. I would like to use this opportunity to thank those that reached out. Gratitude to all those praying for him. This includes those I know and the many I do not. It has been very emotional to observe many defending Mallam’s honour, including those he was not close with. May God bless you and yours. He is doing very well and completing all his books. Mallam, like all humans and all leaders has his flaws. However, he stands out as one of the best for many of us. The father modern Kaduna and an administrator of immense excellence. I made sure to notify him of the support and kind messages from many of you during my last visit. Our focus is still Kaduna North and my team of advisers have implemented a few initiatives on behalf of the people of Kaduna North while our attention has been on Ramadan and our father. These initiatives revolved around our areas of focus, quality education, healthcare, as well as conditional cash transfers to low income households. I will be providing these updates in line with our transparency policy. Finally, I am pleased to announce that the Committee of the Whole of the House also passed a bill I sponsored on Factoring, Assignments & Receivable Financing. It now awaits Senate Concurrence. The bill will bring great relief to MSMEs in the entire country as Interests Rates remain rather high. Please bear with me as I provide these updates in subsequent tweets.
