@NFLRap @Wilson34David There is NO commitment in the Scottish Greens manifesto for a referendum. Bonus points if you can find a commitment to having a referendum on their Bold Three Point Independence Strategy published on their website.

Not really. Nobody doubts the Greens want independence. But the manifesto makes no mention of achieving that in the lifetime of the new Scottish Parliament just elected. It doesn’t even propose demanding a second referendum. Which only reinforces my point that Westminster will have no trouble batting away any such demands. Next.

Ok. Let’s do that. SNP + Greens took 49% of the vote and 72 MSPs between them in 2021. On Thursday their combined share of vote was 41% but they ended up with one more MSP between them — 73. So combined share of vote down 8 percentage points. Hardly momentum for independence. And it’s share of the vote that matters in a referendum. Nor does one more MSP for independence change anything. There was a majority of MSPs for independence before Thursday. Much good did it do them. So what’s new? Nor does anyone seriously think combining Green and SNP MSPs a serious basis for claiming independence. Even Nicola Sturgeon acknowledged it wasn’t. Even more so now — the Green manifesto for Thursday did not include independence. So it’s no mandate for independence.

@afneil You have to include the Greens and other Independence parties in the momentum. You cannot just look at the SNP.

In 2021 parties with a referendum in their manifesto got more than 50% of the list vote 2026 parties with a referendum in their manifesto got less than 30% of the list vote.

Scottish Green Party Manifesto for the 2021 Scottish Parliament Election. Clear and unambiguous call for a referendum. Fast forward to 2026 and it’s not even mentioned. Strange 🤔

@Wilson34David Point out the law that says a manifesto must be clear and unambiguous Point out the law where you can't make a section 30 order to legislate for a referendum unless you promised one

@NFLRap So they left out a promise to legislate for a referendum, mentioned all the other powers they want devolved and you think that’s a clarion call for a referendum 😂. Maybe read the 2021 manifesto. Clear and unambiguous. My teaching here is done.

@NFLRap The Green manifesto specifically calls for a Section 30 for the following - taxation, workers rights, energy regulation, migration and foreign affairs. Not a word about the constitution or a referendum. Did they forget?

@Wilson34David Yes, so it's used for a referendum, and the greens refer to section 30 in a section of their manifesto that is devoted to independence. Explain to me how the greens are not a vote for independence when it's in black and white.

@Wilson34David Is it a mechanism that is used so Holyrood can hold a referendum?

@NFLRap It’s a mechanism under the Scotland Act that allows Westminster to transfer power to Holyrood to legislate on reserved matters. It’s been used 19 times so far. How on earth don’t you know this stuff, it’s basic.

@NFLRap You are literally making things up. I said referendum 😀. The Greens specifically mentioned devolving some more powers but someone just forgot about mentioning a referendum 🤔. You’ve had a nightmare

@Wilson34David So first no mention of independence. Next no mention of a referendum. Now not solely about a referendum. Your cope won't change anything

@Wilson34David Section 30 order. Fairly certain it says something about a referendum. You said Independence wasn't in their manifesto. It's a full section.
