@emergenteffects This was indeed the plan as they intended to ignore a baby boom shortage of school places to ride down a population decline and close schools.
Instead they invited in the world and their dependents, badly taxed those who were helping and generally ruined the plan.

This is exactly the kind of radical, forward thinking policy this country needs. Schools cost the government £65bn a year. Why not abolish them and just import school-educated workers — whose wages are set internationally — from abroad? Perfect!

In 2020, to employ an 18 year old for 40 hours a week on minimum wage, it cost my business £17,000 a year, including employers NI.
It now costs £29,000.

Someone earning £33,000 in 2010, if their salary had gone up by inflation, would now be a higher rate tax payer, despite being £11,000 below the threshold at the time. The minimum wage in 2010 was £5.80, if increased by inflation it would be £9.09. It will be £12.71 from April. These two factors combined with student loan thresholds and infinity low skilled migrants are the "productivity puzzle" in the UK. We have regulated ourselves into not rewarding working harder.
