@anaboultertv @hmtreasury They call that a tax break but calls “taxpayer funded” breakfast “free”. The delusion wrapped in spite is evident.

It is not a tax break but that is quite clearly language to incite a division: people will read it and believe it and that’s exactly what you want. I am absolutely appalled that this sham of a policy which discriminates against faith, disabled, minority, gender oh and all children has been given the light of day, particularly by a man whose own brother knew was it was to have SEND. Disgusted: this govt is not fit for purpose abd @bphillipsonMP needs sacking NOW. Her role as Ed Sec is to represent ALL children not just those in state. That is discrimination and a dereliction of duty. @EducationNotTax

On 1 January, the 20% VAT break for private school fees will come to an end, enabling better investment in state education and helping to recruit 6,500 new teachers. Find out more by clicking the graphic below 👇

@drneiljohnson @BrokenSkiesPG @anaboultertv @dshensmith This is a cohort of parents that you can almost certainly say that they work and pay taxes. Majority of independent school parents are in the higher tax brackets so none of the arguments for VAT makes sense.

Absolutely agree! When parents decide to send their kid to state school, that decision is subsidised by the taxpayer (most parents don’t pay enough tax to cover the cost of education their own children). And if they switch from private to state they may reduce working hours so less NI+IT. When parents decide to pay for their kid’s education themselves (independent school or home schooling) then they are subsidising the taxpayer: the child does not take up a school place that the parents are subsidising through taxes (saving the taxpayer ~£8k/yr), and in some cases work more hours to cover the fees (so more NI+IT). Financially at least that sounds like a win-win for the taxpayer.

We didn’t start this war. We didn’t want it. And working families in a cost of living crisis shouldn’t have to pay the price for it. That’s why this government is focused on de-escalation and keeping energy bills down. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…

@stellacreasy Can we start with how did these children end up in poverty. Root cause analysis?! Just so you know a child who grows up with parent(s) not working and living on benefit will most likely end up that way. Why choose a hard life when you can have it easy living on the state?!

If you think today’s decision to lift the two child benefit cap doesn’t help you, think again. Ending child poverty will in the end help us all. Here’s how. Share to spread the word. #TrueLabour

When I married in 1981 we both worked & most of our salary went on paying the mortgage as the interest rate was 15% at the time. Everything we owned was 2nd hand & we never went out for meals as we couldn’t afford to. We rented our TV Went to the launderette every weekend as had no washing machine. Only had new clothes at Xmas & birthdays as presents. We went without until we could save enough to pay for something. It’s always been hard whether you are young or old. So those out there that think we had it easy we didn’t. Our governments are to blame, not the old.

@kezia_noble The real question @kezia_noble are they actually disabled/have a disability? With all the TikTok videos and people offering to help to claim benefits Kezia, how many parents are gaming the system by using their children to get extra money?

I have a “friend” who seems to copy a lot of what I do. We were both pregnant at the same time, and I noticed she’d buy the same things after seeing mine always acting like it was coincidence. When she kept pushing to know my baby’s name, I decided to test her and shared a fake one with our mutual friends. She gave birth last week… and used that exact name, just with one letter changed. Meanwhile, it wasn’t even the name I planned to use.

@Mikey1732 With Starmer you get what it says on the tin - left wing 'progressive.' Sunak and his Tory party employed much the same politics on a softer level. I'd rather the honesty of Starmer so voters know what they're getting.

Can someone tell me what I’m actually paying for? My latest council tax bill has arrived. £330 a month. For what? We still have to pay extra just to have the garden waste collected. The roads are knackered, the drains are blocked, and every time it rains the streets flood. The local town is now devoid of shops because business rates and parking charges have made it almost impossible to trade and expensive for people to visit. So where is the money going? Councils spend tax revenue on vanity projects like cycle lanes that might see a bike once a decade and disability parking bays that sit empty most of the time. Meanwhile the services we actually rely on continue to decline. We are expected to pay more and more for less and less. And at the same time we all see public money being spent on people who entered this country illegally and have never contributed. So I’ll ask again. What exactly are we paying for? The whole system is broken.

Question for the Labor Party and their Education Minister: Is there a single #Trans child at a Muslim school in this country? If not - why not? Where's the investigation into 'diversity' and 'equity'? Are Muslim schools adhering to the same legally-binding guidelines and aggressive trans activism that Christian schools are forced to? Are there rainbow flags in their classrooms? Do they allow girls to ditch their headscarves and dress as boys if they 'identify' that way? I'm going to guess Labor does not force the issue in delicate electorates. I'm going to further guess that Labor respects the religious preference of Muslims - but NOT Christians. Am I wrong?

Starmer really going in on Badenoch on changing position on war. 'If she were PM we would be in war & she would be coming to parly to say sorry I got that wrong. PM says it's "deeply embarrassing". He then pivots to criticism of Reform's flip-flopping on entering the war (as I documented in my timeline y'day when I asked Farage about it).

i have no desire to be rich so i can buy a rolex or a lamborghini. i want to be rich so i can control my time and go to the gym at 3pm on a monday. sit at a cafe and relax for an hour on a rainy afternoon. so i can cook meals at home with fresh ingredients. spend on my family and friends without worrying about a budget. that's my idea of a rich life, not the fake consumerist idea shoved down my throat.

Why on earth is the UK spending £108 MILLION on a "Climate Investment Fund" for Pakistan? Call me frugal, but I don't think we should be sending hundreds of millions of pounds to a country with its own space program and ongoing nuclear weapons facility.

Starmer is today proudly claiming they are helping with the cost of living by freezing prescription charges. Why do we even pay prescription charges in England when there are no charges in Wales or Scotland? We all pay the same contributions!
