@PensionCheck Wow, huge impact. Well done in exposing this. Most do not understand compound interest. .0.33 percent fee can eat nearly 7percent of capital amortized over 20years. But prsa fee ranges are regulated and I have never seen a fee as 0.2percent? 1percent seems best I have come on?

@johnmmulligan I would be shocked if there are no fees. But hopefully there will be low-fee options. I think the scheme would be a great idea from the point of view of tax simplification & encouraging investing.

@PensionCheck Any thoughts on the new proposed government investment account/ scheme. While there is talk of improved tax measures compared to present investment fund treatment. Will there still be fees on top of the proposed tax rate to take away from the investment ?

MSM encourages us to switch energy providers & save €100s per year (rightly so). But doesn't mention that switching pension providers can also provide €100s or even €1000s per year in fee savings.

@TomPe_ It's common for pension providers in Ireland to charge a 5% fee on new contributions/investments. They often dance around the word "fee" by saying 95% "allocation" instead.

@WokDwayneSmack Brokers are keen to do business with people who have big pension pots, so they will compete harder and offer lower % fees in those cases.

@PensionCheck How is 1% on €500k lower than 1% on €20k. It’s the same 1% charge. Or are you saying brokers offer lower fees on €20k than €10k

1% fees on €20,000 pension = €200/year. 1% fees on €500,000 pension = €5,000/year! Brokers offer lower charges for big accounts. Compare on PensionCheck

@RDrewsBeard Choosing to pay more for better advice absolutely makes sense. But my impression is that a lot of people have never given much thought to either question: 1) how good is their broker or 2) what fees are they paying

@PensionCheck Overly simplistic.. a nice number but realistic, You’d neeed to switch, exit penalities, loss of initial benefits no longer on market, different structures, cost of new advice / commission / fees PRSAs typically 1% low cost, fees for a good investment advisor vs poor?

Irish savers have €20+ Billion invested in PRSA pensions. If they all switched to lower-fee options and achieved an average saving of 0.5%, then the combined fee savings would exceed €100,000,000 per year.

@davidmcw @doctorow While big tech platforms have been getting more invasive, open-source software has been getting steadily better. You can download, modify, and run an amazing range of software for free in 2026.

A "financial advisor" in Ireland is typically a regulated broker who earns commissions by signing clients up for financial products. Should there be a separate profession for those who are forbidden from taking commissions, and work purely on a "pay for advice" model?

@jankell21032905 I am not a broker myself, only the creator of the website. Inquiries to "Talk to a Broker" through the site get forwarded to a Central Bank authorised broker who is qualified to help with switching pension providers, etc.
