@ContrarianSaver @ddayen @Noahpinion For a public service with inelastic demand and physical constraints (one pipe, one pair of rails, one set of bins, etc) market dynamics don't work very well. You either make a profit or you deliver the service. Efficiency is possible but without aiming at profits.

Practically everything he found was price-gouging from contractors or outsourcing. The mindbending part of DOGE was that it was going to increase public spending by cutting public staff. Building state capacity saves money.

Government feels inefficient because neoliberals outsourced its capacity to the private sector, which then looted the public without real benefit.
