@bronzeagemantis I think the South in particular has been more resistant to homogenization than most of the rest of the country for the same reason that evangelical Christianity has been resistant to libtardism: a culture of staunch anti-intellectualism.

Another side question , Are there still regional subculture differences in USA to this extent anywhere? Hasn’t social media homogenized things lately …. Regarding these photos not sure if these are for primarily social media consumption and how that changes things

A very idyllic image of Southern and SEC dating life. Counterpoint: my understanding is F Roger Devlin came out of southern debutante/cotillion culture and his essays are inspired by the breakdown of that social world some time ago ; is that so?

Yes, that’s the entire point of the thread man. There are other things about these young men that women are drawn to other than pure looks, which is how dating is historically supposed to work. Money/capacity for future success is important, but it’s not so simple as “he has money” like you are implying. As I say at the end, your cynicism is misplaced. Suburbs Enjoyer is correct

The SEC is a rare instance of an insulated and self sufficient dating market, that outsiders can neither infiltrate nor fully understand. It is the last remaining functional dating subculture in USA, with healthy incentives for relationship formation still reasonably intact. 1/8

@bronzeagemantis Debutante and cotillion culture is also not exactly the same as this, there is definitely overlap but this is a much larger circle than that. Most couples of this type are not debutante levels of wealth or class

I think there is a good deal of breakdown to be sure, but speaking from personal experience in recent years at SEC schools, the social dynamic described is still relatively intact for many upper class Southern youth in Greek life at SEC universities, even if a minority now in the South. It is surely degraded from what it would have been a generation ago, and the generation before that etc., but all of the young people I know who are happy and married by mid 20s are still of this exact type
