@michelleoyen I just had to answer a question ranking my student's artistic potential...for a science PhD.

Since we're all digging on the stupid questions asked by PhD application reference systems: why do they ask about the applicant's potential for teaching when no one doing a PhD is obligated to have a career in academic teaching?!?!

RSV wins again. Both twins being admitted to the hospital. I am so fortunate that 1) our hospital has beds available for them and 2) I have access to quality healthcare. Time to let modern science do its thing while I snuggle my babes.

RSV has hit us hard. Listening to my poor babies cry out in pain breaks my heart. Everything is on pause as we try to manage way-too-high fevers and play the game of “is this labored breathing from fever or true respiratory distress?”

Just made my first NH field gear purchase of snowshoes and bear spray. And to think, a few years ago I got excited about "regular" field gear. I still can't believe I'm getting paid to have this much fun with science and share these experiences with my students.

Hey @WildlifeAcoust, curious if you have suggestions on the best way to transport 30 Song Meter Micros when you have to hike to your sites? Are they rugged enough to just throw in a backpack in their individual cardboard boxes?

Santa arrived! Busy this afternoon prepping 30 @WildlifeAcoust recorders for deployment in NH forests as part of @NH_AES Moose monitoring pilot study. Will it work? Who knows, but this is why we do science!

Our new paper is out! Male bullfrogs 🐸 modulate their vocalizations, yet we found variations in modulation don’t change how rival males respond. So…who wants to now see if modulations play a role in female choice? doi.org/10.1121/10.001… #bioacoustics

@ProfLKloepper Yes, Laura, I hear you ;) Especially for underwater recordings, gear has come a long way. Only 6 years ago, we needed to record >10 days with 8 phantom powered hydrophones. The solution was a car battery, Zoom recorders and a multicore cable 🤦 We'd throw in 8 hydromoths now ;)
