We have spent an brilliant day at Liberton High School and Broughton High School in Edinburgh today, inspiring the next generation of surgeons! With lots of opportunity to take part in surgical simulations, including lap skills, stapling and VR as well as a chance to chat to our faculty, we hope to see some pupils following in our footsteps soon 🩺 A massive thank you to @CMRSurgical, @RCSEd and @MedtronicUK for supporting today's visit!

So lets have a look at our recent paper focusing on 🏺periampullary cancer, a heterogenous group including PDAC, distal CCA, and duodenal cancer: ➡️ doi.org/10.1093/bjsope… Tumour origin, diagnostic accuracy and histopathological evaluation in patients with periampullary cancer: nationwide cohort study The proportion of non-pancreatic periampullary cancer is substantially higher in patients with a histopathological diagnosis than in those with a clinical diagnosis. Histopathological standardization correlated with an increased frequency of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma diagnosis, R1 resection and N1 stage. The misdiagnosis of periampullary cancer origin occurs in a clinically relevant proportion of patients and needs to be considered in patients with a neoadjuvant oncological treatment plan.
