IMO this idea represents one of the great insights in economics. Further, the import of Hayek's critique of socialism was recognized at the time *by socialists*. Oskar Lange's work on market socialism was meant to demonstrate how a socialist economy need not suffer this loss of information. John Roemer's A Future for Socialism, 1994, takes Hayek's critiques extremely seriously. It also takes seriously various responses to Lange.
