A very sad anniversary of a massive intelligence failure that did not prevent 29 innocent people and two unborn twins being killed by an evil group. My role in 1998 meant I was part of that failure to protect innocents; it haunts me to this day. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northe…

PIRA and INLA used to do this, hand cuffing the driver to the car with the RCIED and holding their family hostage at gun point, subjecting them all to violence and the threat of death, to force the driver to be a proxy bomb to kill and maim. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@TheUCS473 @SageDespatches Perhaps the claimants could have called me or one of many military intelligence analysts who served in NI during the 'Troubles' as a witness? Would be interesting!

@_paullay Does this mean that the Cabinet Office is now following a republican pathway and we will be able to elect our next head of state rather than have have a person inherit the job?

@_paullay Our Foreign Office started its downward spiral into insignificance in 2020 when the Tories cut the aid budget from 0.7% to 0.5%, and worsened considerably in 2025 when Labour reduced it to 0.3%. We now have virtually zero influence because of this.

@RadicalRedcoat That will be the same for any and every political party, when they achieve power, they are all the same, in that regard.

In my opinion the right decision however for the wrong reasons - ministers should make these decisions based on what it best for Britain and not what is best for their opinion polling. As always, Starmer puts party before people. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…

Should the Kurds in Iran trust the US and Israel to continue to support them if the Ayatollahs regime collapses? I would suggest that they seek the advice of the Kurds in Syria for their observations on the fickle nature of US and Israeli support ... thetimes.com/world/middle-e…

@DrHelenFry William Beveridge, Clement Attlee, and Aneurin Bevan who during the darkest days of the war were thinking about the peace that would follow and the need for ordinary folk to have a healthcare service free at the point of delivery.

A sensible and thought provoking article. Perhaps we need specialist private sector procurement rather than military/civil servants with little procurement experience, who will be in post two years max so can't be held to account when it all goes wrong? telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/02/2…

@UKDefJournal I am wondering how much the budget will stretch, how long the delays on delivery will be, and how under specced the final helicopters will be?

Are you sure @BBCNews that the despotic rulers of Saudi, UAE, etc don't want the US and Israel to bomb Iran? I think you will find they do, as part of the Sunni-Shia schism. Once again religion at the root of death and destruction. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@TheUCS473 We have recently seen many wealthy British slebs moving to the Middle East claiming it is far safer than Britain. And to live tax free. Want evacuation to Britain? Minimum contribution of £50,000 per adult I say!

Commendable that Jackson took responsibility for their actions and doesn't blame anyone else unlike today's civil servants, politicians, and royals who seem to get away with their failures and foibles. thetimes.com/uk/defence/art…
