@cfryant These are great. Think you'll do feature length at some point in the future?

Tom Holland says artists are “safe” from AI because it “doesn’t have a soul.” "Creativity is safe from AI because creativity has to do with the human experience. It’s about emotions, it’s about understanding one another. AI can sift through data, but it can’t understand people’s emotions. It doesn’t understand the difference between being happy and being sad. The way artists paint, it’s not about what they’re copying, it’s about expressing themselves. So I feel protected." variety.com/2026/film/news…

Anya Taylor-Joy says she spent six months lobbying George Miller against giving Dementus a “clean kill” in ‘FURIOSA,’ arguing that Furiosa should be the one to determine his fate: “I just advocated and advocated and advocated for her to live up to her name. That was my mountain on that movie, and I got it, but it was hard, hard won.” (hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-features…)

I want to try to explain something, even though I know some of you are tired of hearing me talk about AI. I had made peace with the fact that I’d never make another film. The cost, the time away from my family, it just wasn’t something I could justify. So I let it go. And letting go of the thing you love most in the world is a kind of grief. I grieved it. I told myself that chapter was closed and accepted that as God’s will for my life. So when I say AI brought filmmaking back to life for me, I don’t mean I get to push a button and call myself a director. I mean I get to do the work I love again. Sit with an idea. Turn it into a script. Build the storyboards and the shot list. Think through every frame. Edit it into something I’m proud of. The whole process, start to finish. AI just generates the one part that was always too expensive and too time-consuming for a husband and father to take on. That’s the magic. Not that it generates video for me, but that it has given me back something I love. I get emotional talking about this because I’m getting to do the thing I love after already grieving losing it forever. And I get to do it without taking anything from the people I love most.

As a Canadian- I am afraid to post my thoughts on social media now. I am 55 & I FEAR whatever I say can be held as hate speech by @liberal_party - even though it isn’t - it is philosophy and truth & observation. NEVER in my life have I deleted so many posts after writing

@fender_belly I'll judge for myself, but honestly the last one just made them sound like relics from another era. I don't need any more Rolling Stones music

@JeffreyPeel Only a severe impending economic crisis across the West, possibly accompanied by war in which young people are conscripted, would explain these actions.

This is important to note. Governments can't shut down VPNs just as they can't shut down the internet. If they attempt to ban the use of VPNs they'll be sued. The evidence from Australia is that under-16s will be easily able to bypass age restrictions on social media. Government attempts to force adults to provide personal information or biometrics to use Twitter or Facebook will fail. The backlash against these absurd proposals will be devastating for the government and the other political brands that support them. The government needs to wise up...and soon.

@AVARY Can't wait to see it. I'm rooting for anyone that proves AI generated films don't have to be slop. This needs to be embraced.

Damon Hunzeker
Damon Hunzeker@DamonHunzeker·
My review of the post below: Damon Hunzeker really stretches in this piece, all to no great effect. But more important, while the penultimate plural-pronoun placement works fine, its adjacency to the final “they” muddies the antecedent, leading one to ask, “Hey, who’s doing the time-traveling here: Tommy Lee Jones’s parents or Mötley Crüe?” According to the writer himself, he meant the former — they traveled into the future, 1986, and came back to honor their baby in tribute to the upside-down drummer in ‘46 — but without the benefit of authorial foreknowledge, the reader can neither trust nor fully accept either scenario. Hunzeker admits writing it in a hasty burst of overthinking the premise and devoting no attention to clarity. Because of that and more, it’s destined to be a flop.
Damon Hunzeker@DamonHunzeker

Tommy Lee Jones’ parents must’ve been huge Mötley Crüe fans, even though his age doesn’t match up with being named after their drummer, so I guess they were just plain old time travelers.

When Michael Mann finished his final cut of Heat, it was 2 hours and 45 minutes long — almost unheard of for a contemporary crime drama. When he turned it in to Warner Bros, the executives had already decided it was too long before they even saw it. Mann explains: “In terms of length, I had a really interesting encounter with Bob Daly and Terry Semel at Warner Brothers when I made the picture. They told me afterwards they flipped a coin to decide who would have to tell me to cut 45 minutes out of the film — this was before they had even seen it. Then we all went to the big screening at Warner Brothers, and afterwards they stood up and said, ‘Well, I guess we have a two‑hour‑and‑45‑minute movie.’”

@bettybloodclot The purpose isn't to punish individuals for their legal content or speech. It's to monitor any signs of people organizing on social media for the purpose of disruptive action against the government and shut it down at the source.
