The problem is government (of course socialists), but when billionaires see regular people with medical bills that are hundreds of thousands of dollars, it’s human nature to gravitate towards the authoritarian government to fix that problem. Of course we know government created that problem through crony capitalism and bloated budgets, but most people want someone held accountable. They won’t hold the authoritarian government accountable, they’ll want the authoritarian government to hold other people accountable. What should happen, is billionaires should all get together (like JPMorgan did in 1907) and fix some of these systemic issues. People should look to the largest beneficiaries of the free market system to correct the ship. That doesn’t mean they just throw money at the government, it means they find solutions outside of government. If billionaires don’t do what Morgan did in 1907, I can almost guarantee we will see more socialists be elected. Normal people have no other option out of their misery if they are hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical debt, than to throw up their hands and say, “well if I’ve got no way out, then I want an equal sharing of misery.” Break up the huge banks and break up insurance companies. Start there. Let free market capitalism drive more competition and get prices down. Have billionaires start a fund for the middle class that alleviates America’s private medical debt. If they don’t do these things, the people will look to the government for answers. A flawed logic, but an inevitable logic.

@LasVegasLocally If the government didn't steal half of it, then yes, it would be easier to tip people. Get the government out of things and see how fast people are tipped more.

If you hit a $10 million slot jackpot in Vegas you should tip the people who provided good service and made the trip fun — cocktail servers, hotel staff, slot attendants, floor staff, dealers if you played tables. Anything between $30,000 and $300K, spread around, is fine.
Vital Vegas@VitalVegas

Follow-up: informed older couple from Iowa tipped zero for a $10 million jackpot, not even the $4 left on the machine after the jackpot. Cashed it out and took it with them. Do better, humans.

@SydneyLWatson That is definitely not the free market. The free market would have endless competition and that hospital bill would MAYBE be $800, not $8,000. I love capitalism, I hate crony capitalism.

Seen a lot of conversation about how predatory the American medical system is. So I will weigh in. I ended up going to the ER about 2 weeks ago for crippling pain. Turned out to be a ruptured ovarian cyst. I was there for MAYBE 4 hours. My bill? $13,500 dollars. Because I'm uninsured (by choice, that shit is a SCAM), the hospital dropped my bill down to $8,100 and some change as an "uninsured" discount. For starters, $13,500 for a 4 hour hospital visit is insane as it is. But the fact the hospital can wipe $5,000 off the bill "just because" should show you how utterly fucked this system is. And to be clear - $8,000 is still an absolutely insane sum of money when all these people did was scan my stomach and give me some pain killers. On my itemized bill, my CT scan was 7k. The iodine they used was $900. Just being in the ER room alone was $2,500. We phoned the hospital to haggle. They dropped the price by $20. Normal people can't survive this shit. I do okay and $8,000 is still an INSANE chunk of money out of my savings. Anyone who argues this isn't a disgusting, predatory system is crazy. And it is even crazier that Americans accept this. And for those of you who argue this is the free market, I need you to be quiet. There can never be a true free market here when government and insurance have their creepy little fingers in this pie. People shouldn't go bankrupt trying to pay medical bills. This has to change.

@realMaalouf I'm not. ...but I don't have suicidal empathy. I chalk it up to a lack of education and/or ignorance. Parts of my community are genuinely adverse to seeing reality for what it is.

In just ONE state, 14,000 individuals receiving SNAP benefits were driving LUXURY VEHICLES! 🚗 3 Bentleys 🚗 3 Ferraris 🚗 11 Lamborghinis 🚗 59 Maseratis 🚗 141 Porsches 🚗 244 Alfa Romeos 🚗 306 Land Rovers 🚗 2,098 Teslas And this is just in ONE STATE. We need to defend our nutrition programs for those most in need, not for scammers gaming the system. These individuals are taking advantage of the American taxpayer. And together with @VP’s Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, this ends NOW. 4.3M Americans have been moved off of SNAP — but more work to be done!

... but the California bill doesn't absolve the middle class from picking up the tab when the billionaires and corporations leave, so then what? MORE TAXES ON THE MIDDLE CLASS. A tax on any citizen is merely just a means to an end on the rest of the citizenry. Disgusting.

A petition for the California billionaire tax, which would implement a one-time 5% tax on the state's 200 billionaires to fund healthcare programs, has received 1.5 million signatures — which could help it qualify for the November ballot. Gavin Newsom shared that he was fighting against this amendment in a previous interview with The New York Times.

@bethanyshondark What is this 'eroding of democracy' these democrats are talking about? We all literally voted. I realize they want to count illegals into the voter rolls, but that's the threat to democracy. President Trump has done nothing but make democracy stronger. These people are crazy.

@CynthiaTi33 @Notwokenow You're about as independent as an orange is an apple. Katie Johnson wasn't even her name, and she alleged it happened in 1994, filing suit in 2016 (conveniently when Trump ran for his first term). The case was dismissed, then re-filed, then dropped by the accuser.

@CynthiaTi33 @Notwokenow Sure. Not one word was spoken about Trump and Epstein when Democrats were in power from 2020-2024, yet it's now all you people talk about. You seem to believe that the most investigated man in history, somehow was able to cover-up his past crimes, even from the 2020-2024 DOJ. 🤣

@realEstateTrent I reached out to a lot of art distributors for a painting I had. None of them wanted to sell it, despite it being an original. I posted it on eBay for the price I wanted and sold it within about 48-hours. I had never used eBay prior to that, now will use it more.

A friend is renting a house and the application requires connecting your bank account (via login) to pull 90 days of purchases and balances. Seems really invasive for a rental or any purchase for that matter. Is this really becoming a new standard?
