starfleet academy was paramount's best opportunity to get the new generations interested in star trek and they completely fumbled bc their company's pockets didn't overflow on the first day it aired

@suchnerve I’d rather they just put Star Trek on ice. They’ve treated the license with nothing but contempt, utilising it for their generic, reject sci fi scripts that wouldn’t work anywhere else, but get taken seriously because they slap Star Trek’s name on it. Just let it die.

At this point, I almost don’t want any new Star Trek TV shows unless Paramount commits to 7 full seasons upfront. Sick and tired of their refusing to let these shows breathe, always demanding constant and immediate upticks in viewership.

And when the Next Gen came out; there was tons of hate because it “wasn’t Star Trek” and the cast probably was in fear from the fans. Again when the series with Bakula came out, it too was panned by the fans because it “wasn’t Star Trek.” Star Trek is different for everyone. 🤷🏼

@CadetMisty TNG had a great foundation with shaky writing, which got ironed out once it found its footing. STSA doesn’t even have a good foundation, so what the fuck is there to work with?

Imagine if TNG was cancelled after S1 because it "sucked"? I feel like the issue is they don't allow shows time to grow anymore, they have to be a viral hit the minute they come out or it's over. I haven't watched it so I can't say if it's good or not, but it feels like a waste

Right-wing haters killed something that was objectively amazing. Starfleet Academy had one of the best first seasons of any Trek show. Period. These anti-woke losers would’ve had a stroke at Riker rizzing up non-binary aliens in TNG. Star Trek has always been progressive.

@djairrick No, I just want Star Trek to go back to what it's supposed to be about. Competent people solving complex political, social and military issues through problem-solving. Not the "pew pew, big explosions, here's this week's superweapon" plots that have plagued modern Trek.

So what I think this signals, if they dont pick anything up in the next few months it that Star Trek cannot move past its nostalgia audience. That means once they are gone, so is Star Trek as culturally relevant. Congrats internet fools, you did this!
