This is not monopoly money. I have been fighting tooth and nail to bring the costs down on the I-5 bridge by simplifying the design. We all need to be good stewards of taxpayer money and find a way to get this vital project done without further cost overruns. Runaway inflation in material costs is what happens in a country with no industrial policy. We struggle to do big things, and the costs for things that should be predictable spiral higher and higher. The price tag is explainable but not defensible

I’m sending love and condolences to the family and crew mates of Captain Ariana Savino of Covington. Her death in the refueling plane crash over Iraq reminds us of the sacrifices our service members make each day

The attack on the Jewish community in Michigan is horrific and a sobering reminder of the fear many of our neighbors in SW Washington hold with them as they practice and live their faith. I’m grateful for the first responders and security guards who protected the community.

My thoughts are with the mom, dad, sister and fiancée of Tyler Jaggers, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer who died responding to an emergency 120 nautical miles offshore. He and his crew based at Air Station Astoria patrol the water and they never hesitate to put themselves in danger on behalf of others. Thank you to the men and women of the US Coast Guard @USCGNorthwest

Somebody at the DOJ seems to think a Sharpied out PDF is “unredacted”. I think they’re not complying with the law we passed. Members of Congress are supposed to have access to uncensored files- but reviewing files today, my bipartisan colleagues and I found blacked out pages, obstructive search systems, and continued surveillance of our individual search history. This is anti-American and we’re not going to let it ride. #EpsteinFiles

Our government was not designed to run like a casino. Maybe this gamble pays off in the short term—Ali Khamenei was an SOB—but America’s strength as a superpower has always rested on deterrence and careful, deliberate action when deterrence fails. This strike in Iran was an extraordinary risk, and our service members will bear the cost of what follows.

Many Americans believe Jesus calls us to bear one another’s burdens — Chaplains like Mark take that real seriously. They volunteer their time to make sure our neighbors are spared from facing some of the worst news of their lives alone. When I learned that it’s easier to fund a chatbot for mental health support than reimburse volunteer chaplains for their gas money I wanted to change that. And we did. Thank you to Mark and his brothers and sisters in service. It was a real privilege to have you join me at the State of the Union.

Our fishermen in Southwest Washington have spoken loud and clear—sea lions in the Columbia River are decimating our salmon and steelhead runs. My provision to explore more cost-effective and efficient ways to remove these Corolla-sized vermin from our rivers and tributaries was just signed into law. I enjoyed brainstorming with SW WA fishermen on next steps to return our runs to their former glory.

Today, I visited @C_C_F_R and the CARES team to hear about how they’re keeping folks out of the ER and caring for our community. Thank you to our local firefighters and first responders looking out for our neighbors.

To my friends at TSA — I know it sucks to work without pay during a shutdown. Hang tough, we’re grateful for you and working hard to restore funding.

My provision to bring down costs for mobile home residents is now law! We know that low-cost solutions like mobile home skirting can be a powerful tool to bring energy costs down. Energy policy shouldn't just be focused on people who can afford to spend big on a heat pump or new EV.

Call me a perfectionist but if your legislation requires government to provide free photocopy services, you have not written a good piece of legislation.

Napavine High School’s ag programs are at capacity, and they need additional space to grow the next generation of farmers and tradespeople. I'm happy to bring home $1,015,000 to the Napavine Tigers to help the school district build a new shop building. Our kids deserve the option to choose a career path that best aligns with their interests and allows them to stay close to home when they grow up.

I recently sat down with the Elder Justice Center and Children’s Justice Center in Clark County. These exemplary public servants see the worst of humanity and show up every day to fight for our community. When you add it all up, the amount of money stolen from seniors by scammers would rival some countries’ GDPs. Protecting the hard-earned savings of seniors should be a priority for officials at the local and federal level and we need real collaborative action.
