A historic roadshow in Kolkata! The mood across the city makes one thing clear…that West Bengal wants change. West Bengal wants BJP. Here are highlights from yesterday…

@LeeEvansBirding Yes very sad Lee. He remained on the London committee right up until his passing. Don’t know exactly when he joined but possibly pre 1975!

Lee Evans (LGRE) - the official account
It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of ANDREW MOON today - a birder I had known well for over 50 years. Once of Watford, he spent the rest of his retirement years in Suffolk and was London Bird Recorder for a very long time before leaving

@keelebirder The wine hotel does some really good quality stuff - no point in going for the dirt cheap stuff there but was really pleasant. We had a complete blackout & no internet so no full picture of what was happening and the tragic death toll

My final birding and tick of the trip - an excellent pelagic off Valparaiso: Good numbers of the recently described Andean Storm-petrel (potential Wilsons split), but the highlight was a brief Juan Fernandez Petrel. 2x Chatham Albatross were also notable.

Photographed this Swallow at Balranald, North Uist late this afternoon. I think due to the lack of a dark band across the lower throat that it's the American subspecies: erythrogaster?

Today was another travel day, driving the 500km from Iquique to San Pedro de Atacama, through the Atacama desert. We manage to get the highly localised Tamarugo Conebill on the journey which was only described as recently as the 1970's.

@WiseBirding Swifts can be a bugger - Dominic Mitchell tells me of seeing a Swift in Highgate in 1975 - odds on a Pallid! Must be the most recorded bird in the London area not on the list!

Relocated the Swift again a couple of times briefly this morning but only managed v poor photos. Severely pushing the limit on lighting edits! One sharpened the other not. Certainly Pallid features, but not sure you can really trust the poor image? 🤷‍♂️

Exciting & frustrating! 😮Returned home from Namibia this AM and find a Common/Pallid Swift on the patch this PM (3.20pm - 4.20pm) over Otter Estuary NR. Brief views appalling light & distance didn’t allow photos or much help with id features.🙄Fingers crossed it returns tomorrow
