@KathrynPorter26 @Ed_Miliband The tidal range at Avonmouth is circa 40 ft. , the second highest in the world, twice a day every day to infinity. Utterly reliable, utterly predictable.
I know let’s make windmills.

@KathrynPorter26 @SarahGarne50949 @Ed_Miliband I find it staggering that the vagaries of the British weather is seen as energy security. Anyone who has lived here knows how unpredictable our weather can be.

@KathrynPorter26 @suecresswell01 @Ed_Miliband @GBNEWS @TalkTV @SkyNews I live in a vain hope that you will get @Ed_Miliband on your shows and present him with this graph and when he denies the data, expose his madness to Britain.

@EnergyDeb8tr @KathrynPorter26 @Ed_Miliband The French solved their electricity-generating problem in the 1960s and 1970s with nuclear. They supply to the whole of Europe when the wind dies and at night.

@KathrynPorter26 @Ed_Miliband £billions for 3% output when we need it most? Nuclear delivers 24/7 carbon-free power. That's real energy security, not hope-based policy.

This chart illustrates the problem with weather-based renewables and why @Ed_Miliband is wrong to suggest we should base our energy policy around them
Over the past week we barely generated half the potential we have installed - only 3% of the time was output above 16 GW (we have about 32 GW installed)
However for a third of the time (32%) output was below 10% ie of the 32 GW installed we were actually generating less than 3.2 GW
Clearly we relied on gas to fill in the gaps. There is no storage technology that could fill such a large hole for such an extended period
Now consider the £billions we're spending on renewables. This chart shows just what a bad deal we're getting: expensive and insecure energy
Time for a new plan (and a new Energy Secretary)

@KathrynPorter26 @Ed_Miliband Far worse than that. How much of what was generated was dispatchable?

@simoncwrightson @KathrynPorter26 @Ed_Miliband I think Simon Wrightson's point was about the waste of wind-power when it all comes on at once, e.g. in storms. Then the grid cannot take all the power, yet it has to still pay for it. Such a costly mess!
English

@CorthoUK @simoncwrightson @KathrynPorter26 @Ed_Miliband But most of the grid is demand-led: we do not store electricity in batteries in any quantity, and we do not store water for hydropower in any quantity in the UK. Electricity is generated AND consumed simultaneously.

@KathrynPorter26 @And_Dow @Ed_Miliband I was in Devon for the weekend and never saw one single wind turbine turning once! Ridiculous to base our energy policy partly on this!
English

@KathrynPorter26 @Ed_Miliband @Ed_Miliband : This 👆is simple enough even for you to understand (sorry, but I am really angry at how OBTUSE you are). Thank you @KathrynPorter26 for explaining so clearly. @Keir_Starmer : you must sack Miliband. He is not up to the job.

@warreworrior @KathrynPorter26 Renewables do not generate consistent or predictable supply, they need expensive back up. They might be part of the picture overall but they are not reliable.

@renewablesmiffy @LizWebsterSBF @KathrynPorter26 Happy to take that risk! If Norway are still making new discoveries in the same sea maybe we will too. We won't know until we try. Best to leave the cave and see what's out there.

@LizWebsterSBF @KathrynPorter26 None of these are reasons for refusing to extract and sell a valuable resource that we have in our territory. New projects can be accelerated quickly, our economy will benefit from a better trade balance, more employment and additional revenues, and a stronger currency.

This is the best and clearest explanation so far on why we must reopen and exploit our North Sea reserves by @KathrynPorter26.
Gas is traded regionally not globally. British gas from the North Sea can bring down European prices in the summer. It is significantly cheaper than LNG.
We would also benefit from additional tax revenues, improve our balance of payments, and keep oil and gas jobs in Britain, as well as in the wider supply chain like refining.
It looks the Energy Secretary is too dug in to change course, and Starmer is too weak to overrule him.

Shocking reason migrant who dragged British teenager into woods and raped her won't be deported.
A migrant who raped a British teenager was previously jailed for a "sexually motivated attack" but not deported to "protect his right to a family life". Nigerian national Gift Oladele, 24, was found guilty last week of raping a 19yr old British woman in woodland, near Wrexham last September.
Judge Simpson concluded that the "continuation of the deportation order is not proportionate under Article 8 ECHR." They said the refusal by the Home Office to revoke the deportation order and to refuse his human rights claim has resulted in a breach of the Appellant’s protected rights.
Oladele is expected to be sentenced for the rape next month. These monsters have more rights than the victims.

Douglas Murray dared to say what millions of Brits are too afraid—or too censored—to voice out loud.
He called Islamist migrants who attack Jews, chant for violence, and actively undermine British values what they are: part of Islam’s death cult.
Muslims are now outraged at the label. But if someone truly hates Britain, despises its people, rejects its freedoms, and seeks to replace them with Sharia and supremacy—why on earth should they be allowed to stay?
Do you agree with him? Yes or No?
