We’ve just seen the most poignant example of this. Trump was elected on an anti-war platform. If you had s if he would invade Iran even a few months ago you would be accused of Trump Derangement Syndrome. But here we are…America mired in yet another Middle East war.

HSR unlocked efficient intercity travel at scale.
Order-of-magnitude higher capacity compared to air travel on the Beijing-Shanghai route.
They'd have to build a half-dozen more airports in each city just to handle the extra traffic enabled by HSR.
HSR is about abundance.

If China had listened & adhered to the narrow-minded dogma of the anti-HSR brigade, mostly from the US, we won't have a real-world example of long-range HSR mode share performance. Thank goodness China ignored all that senseless rhetoric to build their HSR network.

She wants to forestall Mainland's preparation for war & catch the shifting wind of Taiwanese youth towards mainland

12% of China's import from Myanmar in 2025 was Rare Earth related compounds (worth ~7B RMB).
It was 54% of China's RE import. China also imported 11B of NG & 5.6B of unwrought copper/copper scraps. China also hoping CMEC related rail & port projects will finally get under way.
Stability in Myanmar is really important to China. Longer term, China would like rail to go directly from Yunnan to Myanmar's Indian Ocean ports so that it can bypass Strait of Malacca.

@Fifongirmfo @tphuang China doesn't want the junta to be defeated in battle. When MNDA seized Lasio, junta could have easily fallen. The alternative is NUG which has always been evasive about minorities. After 80 years' civil conflicts, Myanmar must adopt a China-type ethnic policy to restore faith

@ShangYang2 @tphuang I agree that there is no way around MNDAA or the Wa State. But the People's Defence Force and the wider Northern Alliance either need to be crushed completely or empowered to the degree that they can defeat the Tatmadaw.
