I have a living grandparent in Virginia that paid a poll tax to vote when he was younger. No amount of virtue signaling will ever make me feel sorry for what my commonwealth accomplished last night. It’s a lot of folks who have never been disenfranchised before and it shows.

Many people may not know that my mother, Coretta Scott King, was a trained singer and accomplished musician. Before the world came to know her as a movement leader and the founder of The King Center, she studied music formally, trained in voice with discipline and excellence, and used her gift in powerful ways, including Freedom Concerts that helped support the movement. She used her voice with purpose.
