Barack and I have known Mark Bradford for a long time, and have always been amazed by his work. His beautiful new piece at the Obama Presidential Center, City of the Big Shoulders, is three stories tall and weaves together Chicago’s history – our hope, our power, and our resilience. It was such a joy getting to spend time with Joe and Jill, George and Laura, and Bill and Hillary last week. Barack and I will always be grateful for your constant friendship and support of our family over the years.  (And George, thanks for the mints!)

.@TemsBaby and I met with some aspiring artists at the Obama Presidential Center’s new Media Suite! Barack and I hope this Media Suite will become a place where young people can find their voice, learn about music, and make beautiful art.

The Obama Presidential Center might be named for the Obamas, but it is built for you. It’s a vibrant, living celebration of community. A monument to unshakable values: equality, empathy, and inclusion. A beacon of hope. It’s a place we hope you’re going to come back to again and again.

Happy Father’s Day to my man...he shows our daughters everyday what it truly means to be a man. Thank you for setting the bar high for them.

In electrifying remarks at the Grand Opening Celebration of the Obama Presidential Center, Michelle Obama called on all of us to kindle that hope.

More than 40 years ago, I arrived in Chicago in search of an idea. I was a young man looking for purpose, who believed deeply in America, was inspired by the Civil Rights Movement, and wanted to be a part of something larger. The America I believed in was one where everyone has opportunity, everyone is seen, everyone belongs—because that was an America that had a place for me, too.

There are truly no words to express how proud I am of the way you showed up — and continue to show up — every single day. It has been the honor of a lifetime to be by your side. I love you so much. ❤️

And you did it all with such grace and class and cool that you made the hardest job in the world look like a walk in this beautiful park. Never once did you change from that idealistic summer associate who showed up on that rainy day we first met without an umbrella. You always gave us the very best within you — and in doing so, you reminded the rest of us that we could, too.

Barack: You told me all those years ago that you couldn’t promise me the world, but you could promise me an interesting life. Of course, you outdid yourself and managed to give me both. Eight years in the crucible, and not once did you melt from the heat. Not once did you let it harden you. Instead, you used it to reveal your truest essence: your stubborn optimism and unflinching courage, your dazzling brilliance and unpretentious decency, your ferocious work ethic and absolutely unshakable moral fiber.

To George and Laura, Bill and Hillary — we're grateful for your friendship, counsel, and devotion to this country. And to Joe and Jill, thank you for being on this journey with us.
