Jaipur: Rajasthan Intelligence has arrested a civilian employee from Air Force Station Chabua, Assam, on charges of espionage, exposing a major espionage network operating in the country. The accused was passing sensitive information related to the Indian Air Force to Pakistani handlers. Additional Director General of Police Intelligence Prafull Kumar stated that the entire case began with the arrest of Jhabara Ram, a resident of Jaisalmer, in January 2026. During his interrogation and investigation, the name of another suspect, Sumit Kumar, emerged, who was in constant contact with Pakistani intelligence agencies. The investigation revealed that the accused, Sumit Kumar (36), son of Beni Madhav, a resident of Lahurpar, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, was currently working as an MTS at Air Force Station Chabua, Dibrugarh, Assam. He misused his position to collect confidential information related to the Air Force Station and disseminate it to Pakistani handlers through social media. In a joint operation, the Rajasthan Intelligence team, in collaboration with Air Force Intelligence, New Delhi, detained the accused from Chhabua and brought him to the Central Interrogation Centre in Jaipur. A joint interrogation by various intelligence agencies revealed that the accused had been in contact with Pakistani intelligence since 2023 and was sharing sensitive information in exchange for money. The interrogation also revealed that the accused shared critical information related to Air Force Station Chhabua as well as other military bases, including Air Force Station Nal, District Bikaner. This included the locations of fighter aircraft, missile systems, and confidential information related to officers and personnel. Furthermore, the accused also helped create social media accounts for Pakistani handlers using mobile numbers issued in his name. The accused was arrested on Sunday, March 22nd, in a case registered at the Special Police Station, Jaipur, Rajasthan, under various sections of the Official Secrets Act, 1923 and the BNS Act, 2023. This action has revealed a major Pakistani-backed espionage network operating in the country, and further investigation is underway." (Source: Rajasthan Police)
