Minnesota Predictions: [Click to see more about my favorite, leading contenders, sleepers, and young guns teams for Class AAAA.] Class AAAA: Favorite: Wayzata (@wayzataghoops ) Wayzata (23-5, #3) lost to eventual state champion Hopkins (27-5, #4) in a sectional final. They graduated 3 starters, most notably D-I athletes Sophie Hawkinson (North Dakota State) and Katie Kelzenberg (Clemson track), but return a deep team highlighted by jrs @annikakieser (5'9"--11.3ppg), @GoJacksWBB commit @MarenDay27 (6'--10.7ppg), & @kajanash1 (5'9"--5.9ppg), soph @MalloryMcbeth (5'10"--6.2ppg), & sr @Bethel_WBB commit @ellihoward33 (5'9"--4.6ppg). They also return sr @CreightonWBB commit @kate_amelotte (5'11"--INJ (13.7ppg as soph)), who missed last season due to an ACL injury, and bring in incoming freshman @BrielleDenkmann (6'), who appears prepared to contribute in the tough Lake Conference right away. Jrs @AvaDoherty2027 (5'9"--2.3ppg in 3 games) & @TessaFrank2027 (5'6"--1.8ppg) & fr @BackerSawyer (5'9") & @sydclemens2029 (5'11") provide additional depth. Wayzata will once again be in Section 6 with Lake Conference rival Hopkins. [Hawkinson & Kelzenberg earned MGBCA Class AAAA All-State, while Day earned HM.] . Leading Contenders: Hopkins (@HopkinGBB ) Hopkins (27-5, #4) beat Maple Grove (28-3, #1) to win the Class AAAA state championship. They graduated 4 players that are now playing college basketball, most notably 3 D-I players in Tatum Woodson (Belmont), London Harris (North Dakota), & Lauren Hillesheim (North Dakota). However, they return plenty of talent headlined by their jr class in @ErmaOWalker30_1 (6'--13.6pg), @jaliyahd0830 (5'5"--11.1ppg), @avacupito3 (5'10"--9.1ppg in 7 games), @AliviaBell22 (5'6"--8.1ppg), & @InarahNesbitt (5'9"--4.3ppg). They also return sophs Ava Smith (5'7"--4.6ppg), @Lanaia211047 (5'2"--4.0ppg in 5 games), & @AmariJohnson28 (5'9"--4.0ppg in 3 games), who could step into bigger roles. They are in Section 6 with Lake Conference rival Wayzata (23-5, #3). [Hillesheim & Walker earned MGBCA Class AAAA All-State, while Harris earned HM.] Lakeville North (@LNGirlsHoops )/Rochester Mayo (@MayoGBB ) winner Lakeville North (19-13, #10) beat Rochester Mayo (23-6) 63-62 in a sectional final game; they went on to reach a state semifinal before falling to Maple Grove (28-3, #1) and Eastview (27-4, #2) to finish 4th. Lakeville North graduated 3 starters, including leading scorer Aduke Ojullu (Nebraska-Omaha), but will look to reload behind twin towers sophs @saharawil2028 (6'3"--10.1ppg) & @Madilynnbell20 (6'2"--3.2ppg), fellow soph @Lauren_Robison4 (5'9"--8.1ppg), & sr @jimmie_wbb (5'9"--3.5ppg) as well as an incoming freshman class stocked with guards that includes @StellaPerry29 (5'6"--1.5ppg), @NivayaKoles1 (5'5"--2.6ppg in 8 games), & @BrayleeHinze (5'2"). Rochester Mayo counters by returning their top 3 scorers and 4 of their top 5 in sophs @maggieDyer2028 (5'11"--17.8ppg) & @Amelia_E_Mills (5'6"--16.9ppg), sr @BSUBeaversWBB commit @Miabanks2026 (5'10"--12.1ppg), & jr @MaddyMclaugh_27 (5'7"--7.8ppg). Lakeville North and Rochester Mayo should be heavy favorites to once again meet in the Section 1 championship game. Minnetonka (@MtkaGHoops ) Minnetonka (16-13) dropped a 3-pt decision to Chaska (20-12) in a sectional final. They return their top 4 scorers in @GCU_WBB commit @LanelleWrightMN (5'8"--16.5ppg) & @UNIwbb commit @LeSedraWilliams (6'2"--15.3ppg), soph @ari_peterson20 (6'1"--13.0ppg), & jr @DaingJazz (6'1"--9.6ppg). They also return or bring in a number of others who could step into bigger roles this year in srs @Micah_Chose (5'8"--2.4ppg in 8 games), soph @ElliePanner2028 (5'6"--2.3ppg in 8 games), fr @IzzeAustin (5'7"--10.9ppg at Edina HS), 8th grader @LariahWrightMN (5'5"--4.4ppg), & 7th grader @LamairahWright (5'4"). Minnetonka will be in Section 2 with Chanhassen (17-10), Chaska, Lake Conference rival Eden Prairie (21-6, #5), and Prior Lake (21-6, #6).
