Three things that improved my trading: a journal, a stop loss, and finally admitting I had no idea what I was doing. In that order.

If you're: - cutting winners early - scared of every pullback - glued to your P&L - moving your stop to give it "room" - feeling your heart spike on every trade You're risking too much. Cut your size.

You don’t overtrade because there are too many setups. You overtrade because you’re afraid today will end without making money. If you’re forcing trades during bank holidays , chasing every breakout, or convincing yourself that “this one looks good enough,” you’re not following a strategy. You’re negotiating with your emotions. That’s why so many traders stay stuck. They think more trades = more opportunities. In reality, more trades usually mean more mistakes. Think about it. A sniper can wait hours for one clean shot. A machine gun fires hundreds of bullets and still misses. Trading rewards the sniper. Not the machine gun. The hardest part of trading isn’t finding a setup. It’s watching the market for two hours and accepting that today might not offer one. Traders don’t get paid for being active. They get paid for being selective. Sometimes the most profitable trade of the day, is the one you never took.

@PeterLBrandt We lose our minds over half a second of slippage now. You were waiting hours for a fill with zero idea if you were even still right 😅

Cleaning up computer files This is me, circa 1983 I called orders direct to trading floors - waited hrs for some fills in fast mkts We had monitors with black background that flashed prices in neon. No computer charts, no computer period. Just flashing quotes. Paper charts phone

@fundingpips Key detail is you gotta be honest with what you journal. No lying to inflate your ego after a loss

Review your trading journal. Patterns often appear when you take the time to look back.

@Stroodey Exactly. It's something every long term successful trader learns early. Then they learn how to size up.

As a trader for over 15 years, I can tell you (from experience) what causes the most failure. Almost no one ever talks about it, because nearly everyone gets it wrong. It's not your strategy. It's not your stop loss placement. It's your position sizing. As rule of thumb, if your account balance is less than the cost of a high end sports car, you're probably trading with too much size. If you're struggling, take a month and size down. Report back with your findings.

You're in a rush to make profits because you're in pain. And you're in pain because you always rush. You need to find a way to break out of that endless cycle of loss.
