50 year old Jesse Gilbert Wiseman is wanted in connection to the murder of 20 year old Laura Lopera. Jesse may be hiding out in Canada after allegedly killing Laura in Colombia.
Laura Isabel Lopera’s body was found stuffed in a suitcase. News organizations in Medellin and Bogota reported Jesse Gilbert Wiseman, 50, as a suspect in Lopera’s death. She, a 20-year-old mother, had been in a relationship with Wiseman for a few months. Wiseman, previously residing in Terence Bay outside Halifax, is believed to have relocated to Guatemala last year. Colombian authorities stated that Wiseman left Colombia for Guatemala on Feb. 9, three days before Lopera’s body was discovered in an apartment in Medellin. However, it is believed she died before that. Wiseman, according to his Facebook page, hails from Iowa and was involved in football and wrestling during his schooling in Iowa and Louisiana. He stated he moved to Bathurst, N.B., in 2001. Local media received an audio clip from police of Wiseman verbally abusing and threatening Lopera. Investigators suspect their relationship was abusive. Colombia is known for sex tourism, with affluent men from various countries visiting for such activities. The exact nature of Wiseman and Lopera’s relationship remains unclear.
Authorities urge anyone with information on Wiseman’s whereabouts to contact local police.
