The spirit Halloween masks are NOT going to put any professional maker out of business. The folks at Spirit are not coming for our clients nor are they just a "cash grab" These masks make furry ACCESSIBLE and AFFORDABLE to anyone who cannot commission a professional maker. Theyre easy building blocks for anyone who would like to edit or build off of them to make their own character because resin cast bases from someone in the community may not be a budget friendly option for some folks. These masks can encourage people to explore Furry and might even be someone's first step into the fandom. How can we expect folks to feel welcome when we stop them at the door to tell them their fursuit is bad because it was purchased at a big box store? Telling makers big and small that their business will be hurt because of Spirit sells these cheaply built fun animal masks is fear mongering point blank. It's harmful to new makers and may encourage them to just give up or worse, become hateful towards those with these suits. Every year we have to have this conversation. And every year, people with their head screwed on straight have to sit everyone else down and tell them that the Spirit Halloween furry masks can't hurt you. Happy building 🤙

it is dangerous that companies are getting comfy marketing to furries. It’s not just spirit, we’re seeing furry “merch” pop up in hot topic & spencer’s. It’s a larger issue, not abt losing clients- it’s abt the threat of commercialization & sanitation to a queer community.

Fursuiting is both a form of sexual and non sexual expression for me personally - its not like it has to be exclusively one or the other - I believe you can engage enthusiastically with both the sfw and nsfw elements of the community simultaneously

We do not need to welcome mass produced fursuits into the community to make being a furry accessible. Dozens of fursuits available on dealers den right not for under $500. Here is a listing for literally a dollar. You can still be on a budget while supporting the community

Mass production of fursuits is BAD. u DO NOT want furry to become mainstream. I shouldn’t have to explain why. The masks are a cheap mockery of hand crafted works of art- an insult to our industry. Get creative, make ur own. They are using our community as a cash grab.
