Happy birthday to former Heritage Hall, Oklahoma Sooners and current NFL receiver Sterling Shepard, born on this day in 1993 in Oklahoma City. The son of former Sooner and NFL receiver Derrick Shepard, Sterling attended Heritage Hall High School, earning All-State honors and The Oklahoman's Little All-City Offensive Player of the Year after making 73 catches for 1,243 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also had 80 tackles and five interceptions playing defense. He also participated in basketball and track and field, placing second in the long jump at the 2012 state track meet. He committed to OU and immediately provided an impact, playing in all 13 games as a true freshman, catching 45 passes for 621 yards and three touchdowns. He was a two-time First-Team All-Big 12 selection and a First Team All-American, finishing his OU career with 233 catches for 3,482 yards and 26 touchdowns. His career receptions and yardage totals remain second on the all-time OU record book. The New York Giants made Shepard the 40th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He earned a starting position at wide receiver opposite Odell Beckham, Jr. and caught a touchdown in the Giants' season opener against the Dallas Cowboys, a game New York won 20-19. He earned a spot on the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie team in 2016 after catching 65 passes for 683 yards and eight touchdowns. Shepard played for the Giants for eight seasons before signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2024, teaming him up with his former OU teammate, quarterback Baker Mayfield. In ten NFL seasons, Shepard has 443 receptions, 4,800 yards and 25 touchdowns. He has also rushed for 274 yards and a touchdown. 3⭐️ Heritage Hall ATH Jerrod Williams Jr. (@JerrodWilliamsJ) officially signed with Furman on Wednesday. Williams is one of the state’s top two-way players, hauling in 47 catches for 782 yards and eight touchdowns at receiver while also logging 30 tackles and two interceptions at defensive back in 2025.
