We live on a planet with 1.3 billion habitable years left. We've had rockets for 69 of those years. In that time, the cost of reaching orbit dropped from $54,500 per kilogram to $2,720, and SpaceX is targeting under $100 with Starship. If they hit that number, getting to space becomes 545 times cheaper in a single lifetime. 329 orbital launches happened in 2025. Almost one a day. The space economy crossed $626 billion last year and should hit a trillion by 2034. SpaceX just filed for an IPO targeting a $2 trillion valuation, worth more than every airline on Earth combined. Starship, their fully reusable rocket (both stages fly back and land), can lift 150 tons to orbit. The entire International Space Station weighs 420 tons. Three flights could put the whole thing up there. The engineering side of this is solved. What remains is a survival problem. Researchers published a paper in Scientific Reports calculating the natural extinction rate for humans, how often we'd get wiped out by asteroid strikes, supervolcanoes, the stuff we can't control. Less than a 1-in-14,000 chance in any given year. At that rate, we'd survive millions of years, more than enough to spread across the solar system. Toby Ord, a philosopher at Oxford who spent a decade studying how civilizations end, puts the odds of a civilization-ending catastrophe before 2100 at 1-in-6. The threats aren't from space. Nuclear war. Viruses engineered in labs that could spread before anyone understands what hit them. AI systems are smart enough to act on goals we never gave them. All things we built ourselves. A 2017 NASA paper made this case: we have a roughly 50-year window to lock in spacefaring infrastructure before resources run thin and energy costs make a restart nearly impossible. We're 9 years into that window. Given enough time, the math takes this to 100%. The only question that matters is whether we make it through the next few decades without blowing our shot.

You have no clue what our people are actually living through. You are out here clutching your pearls over the words “stone age” while our people are literally stuck in one, total internet blackout, no connection for over a month. I haven’t even seen my family’s faces in weeks. Meanwhile you sit with unlimited internet, lecturing us because a desperate nation is fighting for the freedom you were born with. They’ve already spilled blood for it, and now they’re welcoming bombs on the people trying to kill them. All you want is to talk over us and shut our voices down. And guess what? You did it, Dave. I’m too exhausted to even argue back. Congrats. You successfully spoke over an entire population that can’t even log on to respond. While the ones cheering you on are the regime-approved accounts who actually get internet access to push their narrative. What an accomplishment.

Has a single person who advocated that the US overthrow the Iranian regime to “liberate” the people, jumped off board since Trump declared total war against the civilian population? If you’re ok with “stone age” I’m starting to suspect it was never about liberating the people.

We are about to fly around the Moon! In mere minutes, the crew of Artemis II will travel farther from Earth than any humans in history, breaking the record set by Apollo 13 in 1970. They will sail around the far side of the Moon, photographing lunar features never before seen by human eyes. youtube.com/live/z-j1uxBmi… @NASA #moon #ArtemisII

Don't sleep on Camping upgrades in Crimson Desert, I wasn't't convinced earlier but there are some benefits: 🔹You can use your reputation point to hire workers(on top of comrades) 🔹once you find Diederik, he can craft armors 🔹All vendor types are available in your camp once you upgrade it to level 4, including character customization. 🔹Dye vendors dyed all colors. 🔹You can grow abyss cores in your farm 🔹By buying contracts from vendors in world, all their content will be available in your camp. 🔹Grand meal and gold bars can be obtained from dispatch missions in later stage. 🔹If you are stuck in the mission 'expand your camp', then go to map - factions - inspect your camp and upgrade.

DLSS fundamentally makes no sense. Because the graphics card is too slow to run the game at reasonable speeds, you use THE SAME HARDWARE to run a neural network to generate frames in between the existing ones.

Andrew Yang reveals he felt like a failure his entire 20s and didn't make it until he was 34 "I started a company that flopped, then another company didn't work out, I still owed six figures in law school loans, and my parents would literally lie about what I did professionally. I felt very insecure and like a failure for years. I didn't become a success until I was 34 and didn't really hit my stride until 30. If someone found me at 29 they'd be like I don't know where this is going. Then you find me at 34 and it's like oh, it's fine."

Robotics is about to have its LLM moment. One of the big issues with industrial robots is having to program individual tasks down to the millimeter and hope nothing changes. Now imagine a foundation model that controls any robot for any task, learning from data rather than being manually programmed. This could become a flywheel where the more we use the robots, the more data we generate, and the better the robots become. We have no idea what's coming.

A major new paper reframes aging as a systems failure of epigenetic information. Not wear and tear but a software problem. This is what the Information Theory of Aging predicts and, if correct, means aging is reversible. Let's dive in... 🧵
