@tim_hatch ... The mains charger by itself has multiple safety measures protecting against power surges coming in from the outlet and certainly on the secondary side, where any instance of over voltage or over current would cause the charger to shut off.

@tim_hatch Whether USB PD or QC3.0, these are protocols by which a device and charger identify themselves to each other. The frying of the device in most cases is due to some fault/short condition in the device, in the connection to the device or within the cable. ...

@tim_hatch ...(which uses the CC lines as the means of identification/communication between device and charger). The One does also support QC3.0 which conversely uses the data lines as the means of identification to the device.

@tim_hatch USB-IF is the specification governing data communication via USB-C. The Mu One is a charger, and though it is possible for a charger to be USB-IF certified, the more pertinent protocol that it needs to follow is USB Power Delivery...
