@cornu__copia Because you're attempting to sell yourself like a prostitute, while trying to avoid getting filtered by HR's shitty AI algorithm.

@cornu__copia Some think that moving to a small town in the countryside will let them live out some libertarian fantasy where everyone is left in peace. In reality small towns are filled with nosy neighbours that constantly gossip and police each other, and are really wary of outsiders.

@cornu__copia If you want to live in a "high trust" society you have to be prepared to have social norms enforced in a manner outsiders might find intrusive or weird/rude. Ironically, if you just want to be left alone, in many ways you're better off in a city.

I remember when there was an American eccentric who moved to the Finnish countryside for some reason. He started posting his rants about the local population like this, they found out and chased him out pretty quick by organized harassment, vandalization of his property etc.

The degree to which complete strangers are now surveiling each other is unreal. 4 days ago, it was 39f, no wind. We parked 250' from the door to the meat store. The walk took 45 seconds. Our baby was in (light pink) thick wool tights. This random lady whips her phone out, snaps a picture, and lambastes us publicly online. She had no idea we were only walking 250 feet, nor that we were only outside for 45 seconds. She clearly couldn't tell that the baby was in light-pink tights, nor that they were thick wool. And she didn't know that our baby SWEATS when she naps, takes her hat off, and literally coos with joy when she finally gets to cool off. So we figured a 45-second cool-down was totally harmless. This lady disagreed. These days, you are always being watched and graded on your *perceived* conduct by parochial social media vigilantes armed with cameras. It's like the paparazzi but for normal people. Who knows what could come of this kind of thing? How easy is it to be misinterpreted in public? There is no grace, no chill -- the judgements are instant and damning. This is very common. I don't really care what the woman thinks about us, but I do understand why some young people are nervous to have kids. If you have kids, you'll be watched on an extremely granular level when in public -- and there will be photographic evidence for even the smallest perceived misjudgement.

Why are they even still here? Put them on the plane with their beloved leader and send them home. The civil war is over!

@ZontarAlt Sadly, for too many guys "male standards" evaporate the second a not ugly girl gives them attention. I know a few who could have avoided heartaches by having "too high" standards...

No one actually believes that entertainment causes men to have standards that are too high for women.

A reminder that Japan is an island. And just like introducing wild boars into a new environment can wreck the indigenous inhabitants Japanese twitter being invaded by the rest of the world will kill what made Japanese Twitter great. What will end up happening is the rest of the world will now start to tweet in Japanese and post the same engagement bait we all hated before. Only it will be Indians, Nigerians, and Indonesians all larping as Japanese. We've already seen SEA onlyfans hoes larp as Japanese. But now we will see larps giving the end user exactly what they want to hear. Japanese women love Indian men saar. Japanese hate the Jews/blacks. The original Japanese were black etc etc. This will lead to Japanese trying to insulate themselves even more on X and then eventually off the platform hopefully onto their own social network.

@eurochallenges Honestly, having competent and viable opponents is actually good for avoiding complacency. We should be able to punish "our guys" in the polls for doing stupid things, without risking things like infinite migrants.

@cornu__copia @juice8882 Well, if you consider Chinese spying in academia or India leveraging its diaspora, one can see that immigration actually does have foreign policy benefits. They're just not for the host nation... x.com/i/status/20168…
Dolf@TheOneDolf

In case it wasn't obvious, India intentionally leverages its diaspora for influence, and it's explicitly part of their foreign affairs doctrine. The Indian diaspora is unironically a security threat. This is from their Ministry of External Affairs website: mea.gov.in/foreign-policy…

@juice8882 It's actually interesting how little there has been any benefit from mass immigration in terms of foreign trade, foreign policy, diplomacy or just quality foreign journalism etc.

"Bilingualism" Who the fuck needs to know Bengali, Urdu or Hindi? You and everybody else on this topic haven't provided any actual argument for why I should be paying for a child's additional language support nor why it's a good thing for there to be large chunks of EAL student
Oliver Kamm@OliverKamm

There he goes again. This is disgracefully dishonest and he’s had the issue explained to him. He’s referring to children who speak >1 language - typically a language of the home (eg Urdu, Pahari) plus English at school & in public. Bilingualism is a good thing, not a threat.
