🧵1/ It’s all too familiar. For a century, Sikhs have built lives in Western democracies, contributing across every sphere. But time and again, particularly since the 1980s, moments of tension involving India carry an unsettling message: Sikh concerns are the easiest to set aside

PRESS RELEASE: WSO CONDEMNS ANY ATTEMPT TO CONCEAL EVIDENCE OF INDIA’S ROLE IN NIJJAR MURDER The World Sikh Organization of Canada (WSO) expresses grave concern over reports that Canada’s Department of Justice is seeking to withhold “sensitive” national security information from the upcoming murder trial of four men accused of killing Bhai Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Although it is not clear what evidence the Department of Justice wishes to keep confidential, it has been argued that its release “would be injurious to international relations and national security.” WSO President Danish Singh said today, “While we have seen our government approach a reset with India without accountability and safeguards, the suggestion that this reset may also be influencing decisions around transparency in the murder case of Bhai Hardeep Singh Nijjar is a new low. Justice is not negotiable and can’t be suppressed in the name of international relations or diplomacy. " Read the full press release: worldsikh.org/wso_condemns_a…

#WATCH | Delhi: Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjpur, counsel for the accused in Punjab targeted killings, says, "There are 8 cases related to Punjab's alleged targeted killings in 2016-17. The Supreme Court transferred the case from Punjab to Delhi in 2019. Among these, 6 are murder cases, including sections of the UAPA, and 2 are attempted murder cases. A total of 14 accused are involved; 9 have been granted bail, 5 are in jail, and 2 are held in different jails. The accused include Hardeep Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Bhagga Hardeep Singh, Shera Jagtar Singh, Jaggi Jol (a UK national), Amarinder Singh, and Manpreet Singh. Most are in Delhi, with 2 in Punjab's jails, while the remaining are free on bail based on evidence. The Supreme Court had directed for expeditious action because the custody was extended. its been 8.5 years. This is a case from November 2017, so evidence is being presented, but there is a lot of show speed... Only two witnesses have been examined in 4 days. There are 1400-1500 more witnesses in total. Only around 250 witnesses were examined in 8.5 years. It's good if we get bail, but some people have already been granted bail... The Supreme Court has asked the Trial Court to submit its report by March 15 on the number of witnesses. On March 24, the Supreme Court will announce the bail for Jagtar Singh Jol..."

Today is Jagtar's 39th birthday. But instead of celebrating with his family and friends, he is languishing in a foreign prison. When he was acquitted on 1 of the 8 counts brought against him in March last year, there was real hope that justice would prevail. But a year later, little tangible progress has been made. If we cannot defend our citizens who are unlawfully imprisoned abroad, we risk becoming beholden to the whims of others, rather than standing firm on principle. I cannot urge the Government in stronger terms to make meaningful representations to our Indian counterparts to bring Jagtar Singh Johal home.

Listen to interview with author and Indian security expert Aanirydhya Mitra (The Delhi Directive). Asked about suspicious death of Avtar Singh Khanda in 2023, he hints Khanda was poisoned citing ‘corridors of power’ discussions, even alluding to the possible method used. ⬇️
Sikh Federation (UK)@SikhFedUK

More evidence from India that Avtar Singh Khanda was poisoned and assassinated in the UK in June 2023. The Indian authorities have killed 66 people on foreign soil, including two in the UK. The UK Government, @Keir_Starmer @YvetteCooperMP @DanJarvisMBE, the Five Eyes Nations and Western governments must publicly acknowledge and call out India’s extra-judicial killings. The Indian authorities are showing a total lack of respect for the rule of law and India is challenging the sovereignty of other nations. The orders and approach have been sanctioned by those at the very top in the Indian Government @PMOIndia @narendramodi @AmitShah @MichaelPolakLaw @DavidAltonHL @HelenaKennedyKC @aliciakearns and other UK Parliamentarians will want to take serious note.
