@BishopPair I have been pretty amazed by Claude. I have vibe coded a script that downloads TWIC in batches user-defined and combines them into one file. After a few other successful tests, I started working on a Chessbase competitor. After a month or two, I'm shockingly far. 😁

@ColinBykowski @LouStagner A huge majority of people using broomsticks will still have a putter that's shorter than their driver. There is 0 evidence to support any of the arguments dorks use against a long putter. It'd be more convincing & genuine if people just admitted they hate the way they look.
English

@LouStagner I actually think think the governing bodies have done a great job the last 10 years yet this one still isn’t very black and white to the viewer. Banning it all together creates more skill in the game IMO. I have also battle yips so understand the why but that’s on me.

@caulixtla @GMAlexColovic Bad is a stretch imo, 6...c5 is very good of course, but plenty of strong players still go 6...b6 7.Bd3 a6! with a mess and decent results. It's even been recommended twice in courses over the last few years. If +.5 is bad, you're going to have to toss out the whole KID! 🤣
English

@GMAlexColovic To get some context here: 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. Nc3 Bg7 4. e4 d6 5. f3 O-O 6. Be3 (see diagram) and now some play 6...b6 which is bad instead of the more sound 6...c5 (which is about 40 centipawns better according to Stockfish)

Know thy classics, they say.
In the 60s and 70s the 6...b6 move in the Saemisch KID was used as prep for ...c5, it was played by Fischer, too.
Nowadays we know that the immediate 6...c5 is good, but some people still play 6...b6.
Bronstein came with the idea to stop ...c5 by 7.Bd3 in 1959.
And yet, today's talents happily go 7...c5?? and their opponents equally ignorantly don't win on the spot...
Maybe you don't need to study thy classics if you can become a World Rapid Champion without it.

@askavrukh Yep! At the time 6.N1c3 a6 7.Na3 Be7!? was very new and no one had really covered it, and 6...g6 wasn't really a thing so I covered by the usual ...Be7 stuff and sharper ...f5 ideas that were favored by guys like Shabalov. But I'm happier with the newer g6 ideas, that's for sure!

Looking for Sicilian variation without crazy theory of main lines as you get in Najdorf, Dragon, or Classical? My new Database is "Kalashnikov Sicilian: Repertoire for Black" offers Black much more positional approach with a lot of dynamic flavor.
For detailed PGN file - ask-avrukh.com/Games.aspx
On my site you will also find the package containing two variations : Kalashnikov and Rossolimo, which provides almost full repertoire for Sicilian 2...Nc6

Tremendously sad news...so young. I didn't know him personally, but the way the British chess community rallied around him the past few weeks shows he was loved. "Amateur to IM" is one of the best and most unique books in relatively recent times.
English Chess Federation (ECF)@ecfchess
The ECF regrets to report that GM Jonathan Hawkins, a former British chess champion, has lost his battle with cancer. Jonathan was British champion in 2014 and 2015. He was also a highly successful junior coach. Our sympathies go to his partner Angela Eyton and all his family
