I was quoting Bob Dylan for a reason. When he sang “Blowin’ in the Wind” in the 1960s, it was not an invitation to withdraw into feeling — it was a challenge to confront reality and act on it. The revolt of that era did achieve something, but much of it remained on the level of individual liberation: lifestyle, culture, personal freedom. What did not follow with the same force was structural political change. So I’m skeptical when I hear, once again, that the answer lies in the heart. That idea tends to appear precisely at the point where thinking runs into difficulty — as if abandoning analysis were a solution. It isn’t. The head alone may not be sufficient. But the heart alone is certainly not either. Feelings can motivate, they can orient — but without clarity, without analysis, without a sense of structure and leverage, they don’t translate into impact. If anything, they risk becoming another form of retreat. So no — I’m not interested in replacing thinking with feeling. If anything, what’s missing is not less head, but a way to connect it to action that actually scales.

When Bob Dylan sang “Blowin’ in the Wind” in 1965, there were a handful of newspapers and not much else. And yet, the answers were already clear to anyone who actually wanted to see them. Leonard Cohen wrote “Everybody Knows” in 1988. Today, each of us has access to almost everything — information, connections, patterns. We can know more than ever before. And yet, it seems to me that the impact of this knowledge is weaker now than it was in Dylan’s time. If you can give me an answer to how we turn knowledge into actual impact, I’ll buy you a coffee if we ever meet. Just please don’t tell me the answer is blowing in the wind.
