All the other eastern block countries including China later copied the USSRs system where the workers already lacked control over the state. (The USSR also wouldn't let them do otherwise)

Religion is actually materialist. Idealism comes from philosophy. All religion begins as communistic revolution - later, philosophers turn it into a series of empty rituals and superstitions, declaring the revolution over. But for thousands of years, the struggle went on.
