I spent 5 years making an attempt to convince myself that Christianity is true. Despite my best efforts, I still am still not convinced. This is what I believe based on the available evidence and the mind God gave me. Eternal punishment for this shortcoming is incomprehensible.

Why are you focus on convincing yourself that "Christianity" is true? You should focus on the message of Christ. I would ask simply, have you read the Gospel of Matthew? Eternal punishment is separation from God. A harden heart isn't going to hear the Holy Spirit. Also, keep in mind the devil controls most of this evidence and most of this world. What you may think is "Evidence" is really just a demon whispering in your ear.
