When people ask me for my opinion on divisive topics, I often will tell them that “I prefer to stay out of it.” That doesn’t mean I don’t HAVE an opinion, or that I don’t pay attention to what’s going on. What I mean when I say that is “the world doesn’t need to know my every opinion on things happening at all times.” The internet, and more specifically this platform, seem to constantly be looking to either glorify or vilify regular people for simply having an opinion that aligns or conflicts with their own. Don’t mistake most people’s silence on social media for complacency or even inactivity.
