The reason filler exists (outside of taking up a TV slot for episodes and buffering for the manga) is to flesh out characters. It doesn't have to be plot relevant or emotionally engaging. It's to help give some personality to the cast. Many modern 12-13 ep shows lack this.

Ppl have most definitely just straight up forgotten what filler is. You absolutely do not need to watch Naruto's filler to understand the story. NONE of it is present in the manga.

@inkfycreates You dont even get any updates between seasons either. A lot of shows refuse to even confirm whether they're making the next season at all. Im just completely in the dark about some of them & I dont think i even care anymore

I just saw a post on my dash about a guy who's last Mario game was Odyssey and that they didn't really have another new entry to play and people were roasting him saying "well play these older entries" which misses the point. Without new entries, a series just dies.

I think that's true to an extent, but especially in Japan, it's also a byproduct of skipping Nintendo platforms for new mainline Final Fantasy games.
