@beneverard Having made a WW2 drama, I might have another one, even more interesting for you to consider. I’m just putting finishing touches on the detailed treatment later tonight.
I’ve long dreamt of producing a WWII flick, however, doing so wades into perhaps the most esteemed waters of them all.
Will take a combination of the perfect script and timing - I hope to one day pull it off.
The pantheon for me:
Patton
Saving Private Ryan
The Imitation Game
Life is Beautiful
Casablanca
Schindler’s List
The Bridge on the River Kwai
Hacksaw Ridge
Inglorious Bastards
The Dirty Dozen (the only one that can have a remake from the list as it’s also concept driven)
We FINALLY moved into our new headquarters. Yes, they are big enough to be called HEADQUARTERS—-a veritable horror factory. Thanks especially to Joy, Danielle, Ellie, Josh, Tessa for all the work getting us in here!!!
@gregsilverman Totally agree and share this vision. There is enough anxiety out there. Even dark stories need a glimmer of hope in the end. We need to lift the audience, not bring them down.
Our films will use the first 2/3 of the film to make the audience desperate for an outcome - and then - the final 1/3 to give it to them.
‘Art’ films do the first bit, but not the second. They acknowledge that, in real life, we don’t always get what we want.
I respect these films, but I have no interest in making them.
Our audience’s lives are hard. I want the films I put into the world to be a respite from harsh realities - an escape and an inspiration.
I prefer to make films that are windows to a better place rather than mirrors to expose our troubles.
Again - I have deep respect for filmmakers that make these ‘mirror’ films. They are a critical component of our art form. Mirror films are just not my ‘calling’.
There is tremendous art and pain and truth in the window films, ( GRAVITY has deep truthful despair. THE HANGOVER doesn’t work unless Zack’s character is desperate for connection/friendship, etc) but in the end, there will always be a happy/fulfilling ending (Sandy makes it home. The guys find Justin and make it to the wedding)
And I’m hopeful that these window films will inspire and lift people so that the mirror films reflect a better and better world over time.
