@Jimfrombaseball It’s too bad Rich held back. I get that he’s displeased, but how does he really feel?

"It is a joke. The game is becoming a freaking joke because of the nerds who are running it. These guys played rotisserie baseball at Harvard or wherever the f--- they went and they thought they figured the f---ing game out. They don't know s---. A bunch of f---ing nerds running the game. You can't slide into second base. You can't take out the f---ing catcher because Posey was in the wrong position and they are going to change all the rules. You can't pitch inside anymore. I'd like to knock some of these f---ers on their ass. Ryan Braun is a f---ing steroid user. He gets a standing ovation on Opening Day in Milwaukee. How do you explain that to your kid after throwing people under the bus and lying through his f---ing teeth? They don't have anyone passing the f---ing torch to these people. If I had acted like that, you don't go in that f---ing dugout. There are going to be 20 f---ing guys waiting for you." Goose Gossage. Baseball Ambassador. Legend!

Of all the Champions Dinner photographs this is my favourite one for a whole host of reasons - 1967, with a star-studded lineup including the defending champion and first back-to-back winner, 26 year old Jack Nicklaus, at the head of the table.

@notgaetti Didn't Andy Messersmith get around $1 million 1975 money for 16 wins in 2 years for the Braves? That was a lot for those days.

@notgaetti Very interesting. Koufax is the greatest pitcher I ever saw. Bonds (pre PEDs) was one of a few great hitters I saw. PED Barry vs. Koufax? I don’t disgree with your conclusion. BTW, people often overlook the fact that Koufax pitched inside more than a little.

Watching the old Masters clips with the beautiful sounds of persimmon and balata made me think of something Dick Helmstetter (inventor of Big Bertha) said of Tommy Nakajima

@podoffame Remember…Koufax won all his Cy Young Awards when MLB only awarded one per season. And they were won unanimously. And imo, Game 7, 1965 is the greatest pitching performance ever.

Imagine if Johan Santana won 2 World Series MVPs, 2 more Triple Crowns, 2 more ERA Titles, 1 more Cy Young, and pitched 3 more no-hitters. That was Sandy Koufax. So, yes, they both had short, dominant csreers, but no, Santana is not basically Koufax.
David Jones@mom19414

@podoffame @baseball_ref Koufax is one of the most overrated pitcher in history. He is basically Johan Santana with way more hype.

I blame Luc Robitaille the most for the current state of the Los Angeles Kings. I don't believe Rob Blake had full autonomy to create the roster. Too much intervention from Robitaille, etc. on roster creation. Alex Turcotte is now 25 and has turned out to be a horrid 5th overall pick. I do have SOME confidence that with the right coaching, system that Quinton Byfield can be more than what he is now. But as a 2nd overall pick, you surely need a heck of a lot more than what he's given the Kings thus far. Boot Luc. Boot him far, far away. Get a REAL Head Coach. The Kings have some decent pieces for the next coach to work with next season. Kempe. Panarin. Laferriere. Fiala. Clarke. But the damage from Team Robitaille has been done and he needs to pay with his job. Thank you.
Nick@LaKingsNick

Where does the blame lie? 1.Luc — It’s his team, his vision. 2.Bergevin — He influenced Luc into building his wet dream of a D-core. 3.Blake — He laid this franchise’s lifeless corpse into the coffin with his moves. 4.Holland — He nailed the coffin shut. #GoKingsGo

Nick Faldo’s judgement on Tiger Woods: Quotes from the Telegram article by James Corrigan. Sir Nick Faldo: “Tiger Woods should not be welcomed back with open arms.” The Englishman also believes that the 15-time major-winner should not be “welcomed back [to the sport] with open arms”. Faldo is perturbed by the manner in which golf’s authorities responded – Augusta National sent out a similarly fawning statement after revealing Woods had withdrawn from next week’s Masters. The Englishman is concerned that, as in his previous scandals, the incident will ultimately be brushed under the carpet. The Tour will look after him, as they always have done. But then you’ve got Jack [Nicklaus] saying it has tarnished the entire sport. There has to be some accountability. Forget about golf. We are not meant to be on the streets with two pills in our pocket.” Faldo believes there should also be some sort of recrimination from within the sport. “Our sport is based on discipline. You rule yourself, you police yourself. I would have thought the PGA Tour – behind closed doors – must be very disappointed that they pay Tiger tens of millions to be on the course and off the course with this business role he has got [as chairman of the player-driven Future Competitions Committee]. “He has only finished nine tournaments in the last five years, yet they feel he is the future on the golf course and the future in the decision-making and they must say… ‘oh boy, what do we get out of that?’ In the normal walk of life, there would be some accountability.”
